My K1 interview was on June 14. We were nervous going in, but it was honestly better than we expected. We parked right across the street. Our appointment was at 7 and there was plenty of parking available at that time. They also have a place right inside the parking lot to store your phone if you want but we didn’t do that. You line up outside 10 min before your interview. They take you through security and then you move on to the next building. The set up for the next building is very much like the DMV. Numbered Windows with microphones and a waiting area. They call your name over the intercom and you walk up to the window. So at that window they asked some pretty basic stuff.
Do you have your birth certificate?
Do you have your police certificate?
Do you have your medical results?
They had him take his finger prints.
Asked him if his son would be added to the petition in the future?
They verified an old phone number and updated it to his current number.
We were then sent to the main seating area were we would be called for our interview. We were there for about 15 min and then a window opened up right in front of us and the woman called us over the intercom. She was super nice. Was smiling and chatting which made me instantly less nervous.
She asked how did we meet?
When did we meet?
How long have we been together?
What did we do on my first trip out to see him?
Where do you stay when you come to visit in DR?
Has he ever been detained or had an issue with the police?
What are your plans as a couple when he arrives in the US?
What do I do for work?
Do I make enough to support him in the US?
For that question I said yes and showed her my folder containing my affidavit of support and I asked her if she’d like to see it. She laughed and said no I believe you! And that was it. I asked her how we did and she said it was good. My fiancé didn’t have his medical results because they sent him for additional tuberculosis testing and those results will be ready in 9 weeks. The consular officer said my case will remain in admin processing until those results are received . Glad that part is done. Now just waiting for the results! |

Timeline Comments: 14Did you all have an approved expedite?
Yes I submitted a medical expedite on April 9th and was approved almost 2 weeks later

Mmd82 on 2021-06-16 said: Congrats! I'm surprised they let you go to the interview! I thought that it was only the fiance?
Mmd82 on 2021-06-16 said: And NINE WEEKS for an additional test?? I can't believe it takes that long. That part is super disappointing
Thanks boo â¤ï¸ @srilankanmafia
@megan2182 Of course you can go. It’snot mandatory but it’s highly recommended you go to the interview. Will you attend your fiancé’s interview?
As for the additional testing, yeah unfortunately it’s 9 weeks to get the results back from the additional tuberculosis screening. There’s no way around it. So we’ll be in admin processing until then
Mmd82 on 2021-06-17 said: I mean at least you know you're approved but that 9 additional weeks really stings. Good luck. Hopefully it will be faster and congrats again
Mmd82 on 2021-06-22 said: Hey Jojo sorry to bother you..another person on here told me that they contacted the nvc this morning regarding their case and the nvc stated that DR has not requested more visas from the NVC since March 2020. I told her that it couldn't be true as I knew that your timeline showed yours went this year. Did you expedite with the NVC?
Hi! I think that’s just a standard message they are telling people so that they dont question or get frustrated with wait times , but it isn’t true. They have been sending expedited and also non expedite cases to the DR for awhile now. For awhile They were primarily working on the interviews that had been canceled due to the pandemic. But I believe those are all caught up with and they’ve moved on to clearing most of the backlog at NVC. The last non expedited case (K1) visa that I saw sent to the embassy was NOA2 July 2020. No expedite, no nothing.
And yes, my case was an expedite.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
