Embassy Review : |
In Italy it works that only the embassy of Naples release the K1 visas, and when you book the interview through their website, they automatically book the medical the day before the interview itself.
The medical is done at a clinic called Varelli and it costs 220 euros.
Here’s my experience of the medical - Naples Italy - 11.02.2020
I’ve booked the cab the night before with the app FreeNow that worked perfectly. I get at Varelli very early in the morning around 6.40 because even though they say the appointment is at 8am, it’s better getting there early, in fact I was the number 2 of the line. After a little wait they start to call you in a room where they take your passport and start to fill some forms on their computer.
Then new wait, and another lady called me into another room where she took out my blood (you don’t need to fast btw) and gave me a little cup for the urine sample. In Italy they only check for sexual related diseases both on the urine and the blood. After a bit I get called into another room where they’ve asked me my address in Italy and where I will be going in the USA, email, the 4 pictures (US Passport style), and they check my vaccination history. They gave me a copy of my passport and sent me to the opposite side of the building to get the X-ray. After that I get called into another room with 2 doctors where they took my height and weight, checked my eyesight, blood pressure, and a general medical visit like heart and lungs.. all good and I was all done by 9.20am!
They took only the pictures, and didn’t give me any receive.
Interview day - Naples Italy - 12.02.2020
My appointment was at 8am like everybody else, but I get there again super early to be the first.. there were 2 officer outside that took my name and checked if I was booked for an appointment and they directed me to the waiting line. Around 7.50am they start to call, they let a family pass in front of me bc they had kids. You do a sort of airport security check where they let you leave all of your electronics devices to them, gave me a visitor pass and plastered number that they would have used to call me, and sent me off inside. Again I was the number 2! You are directed then in a big room with chairs for the wait, a very nice lady started calling one by one, checked briefly if you had all the documents needed and put them into an order, took the 2 pictures and also checked if you have already paid for the visa. Then new wait, until you get called by another guy this time from behind the wall with all windows. I gave him all the paperworks that the previous lady put them in a order, and started to ask few questions like “where and when we met each other, how often we see each other, when was last time we met ecc..†He then gave me a closed envelope from the medical with my xray and other paperworks and told me to keep it with me when I will get to US if asked I will have to show it, if now I will then need it for the AOS (it contains also your vaccinations records exc…) after that he told me to go sit again and wait.. so new wait.. after not too long I got called again to the wall with all these windows by another nice guy, he asked me if I wanted to speak in English or Italian, told him it was the same for me, and started with the official interview. I was asked to swear to tell the truth, and started asking again general questions like before.. very easy nothing crazy and almost immediately told the fantastic words “your visa was approved, you will receive your passport within 3 to 5 business days!â€
I was out by 9.30am ready to go home!
As far as documents they kept the original and copy of: DS160, birth certificate and police records. Then they kept the I-184 and all the W2, tax transcript, pay stubs but no need to get a copy.
Again this was my experience in Italy and it may vary from country to country on what they ask and want and how it works..
The visa was delivered to my house on the 14th of February, so super soon! |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
