Comments : Her initial interview result was refused because there was an issue with her NBI clearance. You need to make sure that every name that you may have used needs to be reported on the NBI Clearance. Make sure you ask for the NBI Clearance with AKA. Her issue was on her original birth certificate, they spelled her middle name incorrectly. She had the middle name corrected on her birth certificate, but failed to put the first misspelled name on the NBI Clearance Report as an AKA name that she may have used. She had to go back and request another NBI Clearance with AKA and put on the report her misspelled middle name as an AKA. She then had to send the new NBI Clearance Report and her passport back to the US Embassy through the 2Go Courier service. It took about 2 weeks for the documents to arrive back at the US Embassy. After the Embassy reviewed her updated NBI Clearance, they granted her the US Visa. It added an additional month or so to the process and delayed her entry into the US. Please make sure that all possible names that the beneficiary may have used are reported on the NBI Clearance with AKA to avoid the same issue that we had.

Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 24, 2021
Embassy Review : We requested an expedited visa interview and it was approved on November 14, 2020. In the email they their was a link to the process of what we needed to do next. In the process it stated that we needed to wait for an email from the US Embassy in Manila with the interview date. It also stated that we would have to schedule the Medical Exam at St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic "after" we receive the interview letter. It stated that we would need the interview letter in order to schedule the Medical Exam. We waited 2 months or so and did not hear anything from the Embassy about my wife's interview date. After looking on the VisaJourney timelines, I was noticing that some people were getting interview dates that had applied after us. It seemed some people were jumping ahead of us. So, I did some research on the US Embassy website and found contact information for the embassy in Manila. I decided to take a chance and send an email to the embassy asking about our status. I thought it would be a long shot since I thought they would be too busy to reply to my email Well, I was wrong and very pleasantly surprised. They replied the very next day. I have to say that I would give them a great review on replying to my email right away. In their email reply, they said that if we intended to continue the process of getting my wife her immigrant visa, we would have to schedule the Medical Exam first before they would schedule and interview appointment. Their answer went against what they have posted on their website and the letter that the NVC had sent me. I was a little confused and upset. I felt like were stuck in a circle. If I had not sent an email to the Embassy, would we ever have gotten an interview appointment. I also was worried about not having the interview email to take to the Medical Exam. I replied back to the embassy stating that we were under the impression that we needed to wait for the interview appointment date letter to schedule the Medical Exam. Once again, they were very quick with their reply. In the reply, they stated again what was in the previous email from the embassy stating that in order to proceed with the visa process and the interview appointment, we would need to do the Medical Exam and then email them back saying the Medical Exam had been completed and she was cleared to travel. Well, I am no dummy and I can take a strong hint, so we scheduled her Medical Exam and she was cleared to travel. I went another email back to the embassy stating the Exam was completed and she was cleared. St. Luke's sent her Medical Exam packet directly to the embassy. 3 business days later, we received the Official Interview appointment email. Her interview is scheduled for March 29, 2021. So the interview appointment letter was not needed for the medical exam. We just showed them the email from the embassy stating that we needed to complete the Medical Exam in order to proceed with the interview appointment. So glad that I sent an email to the embassy in Manila, even though I thought it was a long shot. I was very happy though, that they replied right away. So, if any of you have any concerns, you should email the Embassy in Manila. Their contact information is on their website. I am guessing that the pandemic has messed up the process. Good luck to you all. I will give an update when the interview is finished

Hello! My case was completed on October 23, 2020 and until now I haven’t heard from them. Did you get notified when the NVC forwarded it to the Consulate? TIA

Sorry Regg for the late reply. Here is the email address where I sent my email: IVManilaReplies@state.gov. I sent the email on Jan, 26, 2021 and got a reply the very next day on Jan. 27, 2021. Kareen's Medical Exam was on 16 and 17 Feb. 2021. As soon as her Medical Exam was completed, I sent another email to the US Embassy on Feb 17, 2021 informing them that Kareen's Medical Exam was complete and she was cleared to travel. I sent them copies of her receipts from the Medical Exam. St. Luke's sent her Medical Exam packet directly to the Embassy. On Feb 23, 2021, we received the Official email with her scheduled interview date on Mar 29, 2021. Very quick after the Medical Exam.

Jdreyes, I requested an expedite for our Interview. We received an email from the NVC stating that the US Embassy in Manila had approved our request. That was the last I heard from NVC or the Embassy until I sent an email to the US Embassy in Manila on Jan. 26, 2021 asking about the status of our case. They were very quick to reply. They replied the very next day on Jan, 27, 2021. They told us that Kareen needed to complete the Medical Exam before they would proceed further with a scheduled interview date. This was contrary to the original instructions I received and what was also posted on the Embassy website. According to the instructions, we could not schedule the Medical Exam until we received the official letter for the interview date. So we followed the what the email said and scheduled and completed the Medical Exam at St. Luke's. I sent another email to the Embassy on Feb. 17, 2021 informing them that Kareen had completed her Medical Exam and was medically cleared to travel. 3 business days later on Feb 23, 2021 we received the official email with the scheduled interview date. Her interview date is Mar. 29, 2021.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
