Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 11, 2022
Embassy Review : K1 Visa approved!

Went there at 7.15 AM. Waited for approximately 20 mins outside in the cold. They let us one person at a time. Confirmed my name and appointment time. You will be given two tickets of the same number. Went through airport like security. Locked my phone and keys in one of the lockers and took the elevator to the 1st floor. After waiting for several minutes in the waiting area, my ticket number was called at window 7, confirmed my name and birth date, my address in Canada, my phone number, my fiancé's address and phone number, two passport size photos, took my fingerprints, took my birth certificate (both original and a copy), my fiancé's proof of US citizenship (a copy of her passport was enough), police certificates (original) from Canada and India, affidavit of support and recent tax return transcript (2020). She asked me if it was my first marriage and her first marriage as well. She said everything is in order and asked me to wait in the waiting area.

Interview time: my ticked number was called to Window 2, a friendly consul officer interviewed me. She confirmed my name and date of birth, my fiancé's name and date of birth, her address. It was more like a friendly conversation than an interview. It was a breeze. After having a conversation about my past stay in the US as a student, she said, "I am recommending your approval" and handed me the how to track your application. Really happy with the result!

Interview result: Approved.
Rating : Very Good

I'm about 10 days behind you with my paperwork here in Montreal. It's nice to see a timeline that I can compare the "government speed" to. Good luck in the interview :)

Thanks :) Wish you good luck too!

Congratulations! I'm happy to hear that you were approved. Thank you also for your detailed description of the interview and pre-interview conversation. Your list is helpful to have everything prepared properly. My interview is on Thursday. I'm still anxiously awaiting the documentation from my fiance, which was supposed to arrive on Friday, but it is delayed with FedEx. It finally made it to Montreal today, and I hope to receive it this afternoon or tomorrow. Cutting it close! Best of luck on your move and best wishes for your upcoming marriage :)

Thank you so much! :) The consular officer was really friendly and was so patient because I have speech issues (stuttering). I hope they approve your visa too! I will be moving in March because I have lots to figure out in Canada, like filing my taxes, selling my car etc.

Thanks so much! :) It's great to hear that they are so friendly :) I hear you about wrapping things up here, and I'm dreading it as well, but I'm hoping to move at the end of February. My Canadian police certificate expires at the end of March (I thought that this whole process would be waaaay faster :P). I think it's only good for one year. I'm actually considering requesting another one so that I don't have to worry about rushing my paperwork before it's no longer valid. Unless it counts once you've given them the records for the visa? It might be something to ask them on Thursday. Anyway, I'm happy for you. You have lots to celebrate today and in the next weeks!

Are you on Facebook? If so, I would recommend joining "Montreal K1 visa applicants" group. Tons of great helpful information there. Your privacy act based police certificate is valid for two years :)

Oh for two years?? That's great news, thanks! I am on Facebook, and I will look that up. Honestly, this forum has been super helpful already, the support and details people provide that we can't find on any government site. It will be helpful for the green card process as well.

I have one more question for you about what they asked at the consulate. Did they ask about the vaccine status or quarantine? I returned from Germany last week and had to take a mandatory COVID test upon entry. I'm STILL waiting for the results, but I honestly want to go to the consulate, regardless (unless I get a positive test back, of course). I'm curious if they wanted to know anything like that.
Taknev on 2022-01-11 said:
No they did not. When is your interview? Have you completed your medical yet?
blank avatar Andreams on 2022-01-11 said:
Ok good to know. I completed my medical back in December. My interview is on Thursday.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
