Comments : I attended my interview on Thursday December 9th in Suffolk County Long Island. After checking in, it took about an hour and 15 minutes before I was called back for the interview. The officer swore me in and then asked if I was changing my name and I replied no. She then administered the test. Some of the questions I was asked included: "Who were brought to America as slaves? What is the name of the vice president? Who makes federal laws? How many amendments are in the constitution? Name a reason why the British migrated to America? Afterwards she asked me the questions on the application and asked me to answer yes or no (i.e. "Was I ever a prostitute?"...etc). Then she began to randomly ask questions about my husband's occupation, our address, our phone number, the date we married, and asked to see evidence that we were living in the same residence. I provided her with the last three years tax papers, a utility bill in both of our names, and our home owners insurance policy in both our names. Lastly, she asked for a copy of his birth certificate. She was satisfied with my responses, congratulated me, and told me that if her computer wasn't down that I could have sworn in within the hour. I felt a bit disappointed upon hearing those words, but she assured me that within a week or two I would be sworn in. The entire interview took about 15 minutes and it definitely was not as bad as I thought.

Embassy Review : On August 28th my husband and I arrived at the USCIS center in Graden City, Long Island at 8:00 am. It took us about a 30 min wait before we were called upstairs to the interview waiting area. Then about 1 hour and 15 minutes before we were called to the interview room by a friendly immigration officer. She asked a couple questions like...how did we meet?...how long were we dating before we decided to get married?...and then asked for proof of our marriage. We gave her a few bills we shared in our name, our health insurance card and our daughter's birth certificate. Everything was going smoothly until she informed us that our immigration doctor did not fill out some paperwork correctly so although she wanted to approve us she couldn't without the corrections. I felt a bit disappointed, but the good news is that she offered us an alternative. She said that if we hurried to the doctor's office and give her the corrected paperwork that she would approve us and stamp the card too. So we scurried out of there, drove all the way to the doctor's office (Thank god she was there) waited for 30 min. until she corrected the paper work, grabbed a bite to eat, and then zoomed back to Garden city, where we waited for another hour and 45 minutes ! Then they finally called our name gave us the stamped passport and informed us that I could travel now!!! Overall, the process was pleasant. It was not as nerve wrecking as I first imagined, and the female officer was extremely nice. The truth is that even the long periods of waiting does not seem that serious after you hear the words, "approved" and "congratulations!" Good luck to everyone.
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
