Consulate Review: Nigeria
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 6, 2021
Embassy Review : Was fairly organized. CO my husband dealt with was straight forward. Wasn’t rude but was very organized and interview went quick. My husband did have to wait outside in a line for a few hours before going through security and being given a number. Once number was received he was seen within 35 minutes. We weee placed on administrative review for documents to verify my husbands identity from at least ten to fifteen years prior. (Wish they had told us it was a requirement ahead of time) we could have brought it.

Congrats on NVC completion, ours was completed today as well. Now for questionable wait on Lagos to open for interviews.

Thank you! I am feeling so happy and blessed that we have made it this far! Honestly have a feeling interviews wont occur until next year but wishful that it will be sooner.
Easecat on 2020-07-09 said:
Very blessed indeed! I sure pray it’s not that long, good too see domestic flights started again today, hoping international soon to follow to get back over there, but with this COVID and the ban its very hard to predict

Exactly. Good luck to you both!

Hi, I'm actually considering the option of taking Public charge questionaire Ds5540 with me to the interview instead of uploading with other Civil documents as i need to sort out the health insurance. Just wondering if that wont have any effect on bn DQed

Hello- @Ayodeji Kayode- We did not submit it directly to the NVC and still got our DQ. My husband will be bringing his completed DS-5540 with him to the interview when it gets scheduled. We will also be showing proof of purchased temporary immigration health insurance at that time as well. As I wont be able to add him to my policy until h has his SSN issued.
Ayodeji Kayode on 2020-08-17 said:
Thanks for the info, saw this on Dept of State site, you should probally go through also. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/update-on-public-charge.html On Wednesday, July 29, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York enjoined the Department of State from “enforcing, applying, implementing, or treating as effective” the Department’s October 2019 interim final rule and accompanying Foreign Affairs Manual guidance related to the public charge ground of visa ineligibility. The Department is complying with the court’s order and is in the process of updating its guidance to consular officers on how to proceed under the preliminary injunction. In the interim, visa applications that appear to be ineligible under INA 212(a)(4) will be refused for administrative processing to allow for consultation with the Department, including legal review to ensure compliance with applicable court orders. Visa applicants are not requested to take any additional steps at this time and should attend their visa interviews as scheduled. Applicants are not required to complete nor should they present the DS-5540, Public Charge Questionnaire.
BrittIgbinovia on 2020-08-17 said:
Hi. So while that is somewhat good news it only applies currently to people who live in Vermont, Connecticut and New York. If your residency does not fall within those states the Public Charge rule still applies.
Ayodeji Kayode on 2020-08-18 said:
You're right bcos the update has nothing to do with folks adjusting status as form I-944 is definitely required except in those 3 states based on the implementation of Public Charge Rule by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) but for DS 5540 I do not believe the new ruling will apply to the State Department, although I also expect the State Department to update previous guidance, which confirmed that the agency would not be enforcing the public charge rule against immigrant visa applicants at Consulates and Embassies abroad. It advisable though to get all necessary document ready as the policy might still change.

I was able to add my husband to my employment insurance. My husband doesn't have a ssi number. I guess it depends on the employer and the state. For a friend of mine just got approved for her i-130 after the uscis had been sitting on it for 16 months at Potomac service center; she may need to get her husband some temporary immigrant insurance. But, I have never heard of it.
BrittIgbinovia on 2020-09-07 said:
Im jealous @Rosemichelle- I already reached out to my employer and they said that without having a SSN they would not be able to assist with us adding him to my plan. So unfortunately we will have to purchase immigration insurance.

I received an email today also that my case has been moved to Lagos and a February date was given for interview. I tried to register for courier but I got to the last page and it requested for case ID. I inserted my NVC case number but not found the system says. Is there a case ID that would be sent to me?
Dt'layi on 2020-12-24 said:
@Evetskomplitz I also got the same thing. Anybody knows what to do?
BrittIgbinovia on 2020-12-24 said:
I believe that the case number you will receive is after your interview or at the time of it. I thought I had read somewhere that it is given with your approval letter but I could be incorrect. It was the same for us. Account is created though. My suggestion would be to call the embassy and double check.
Evetskomplitz on 2020-12-28 said:
@Igbinovia can you pls confirm how much is the total cost of the medical examination?
BrittIgbinovia on 2020-12-28 said:
Hello- @evetskomplitz we were quoted $216k naira for just the exam. Additional cost may be applicable for X-ray and any missing vaccinations.
Evetskomplitz on 2020-12-29 said:
Pls is this with Dr. Alakija or Dr. Angie?
BrittIgbinovia on 2020-12-30 said:
Hello @evetskomplitz I honestly cannot remember which one my hubby said he was going to. I want to say its Alakija but not 100% sure. We went with whoever could get us in the soonest. However, please take our quote with a grain of salt. We all know how Naija tax can work from time to time........ Just put aside a good amount of funds for the appointment, vaccinations and Xrays. We still dont know the final cost jus yet.

Have they later issued your visa?
BrittIgbinovia on 2021-02-09 said:
Hello- They have not. We are still awaiting review of the additional documents requested. It’s been a little over 30 days. I reached out to a lawyer and they told me to consider hiring someone after the 60 day mark. So we shall see.
Dt'layi on 2021-02-09 said:
Hopefully it comes out soon. You don't need to hire a lawyer in my opinion. You can just call them after 6 days mark. They issued someone yesterday who has been in the AP since November.
BrittIgbinovia on 2021-04-15 said:
Update as of 4/15/21 Already contacted US Congress Rep. Which was over a month ago. Received timely response from the Rep and got an answer about two weeks later. They told the rep same thing, “They are on administrative review “. blah blah blah with an excuse for why they haven’t processed yet. Seeing others who have had their interview later and have been placed on administrative review get reviewed and approved already for same consulate/embassy. In any case, the lawyers we reached out to stated that the case should be delayed for a minimum of one year in administrative review before considering pursuing anything with the embassy. They have not updated the date for our file since March 11. Prior to that it was Feb 9th and Feb 20th.

blank avatar Nanna_lux on 2021-06-04 said:
I don't know if you answered this already but why did they need old identification?
BrittIgbinovia on 2021-06-04 said:
@nanna_lux no idea. To be honest. I haven’t heard from anyone else here that they were requesting the same information from anyone else on Admin Processing. They didn’t tell my husband why at the time of the interview and I’m not sure why he didn’t think to ask. They would accept his previous passport

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
