It was the first day on the job for the immigration officer who processed me. I was the first ever K1 visa she had dealt with. She was so new, she had a supervisor talk her through the process. |

Interview was very straightforward. Interviewer asked me ti raise my right hand and then had me repeat after her that I would tell the truth. She asked general questions about myself, my husband and our marriage and about travel outside the US. She then asked 10 random questions from the 100 and had me speak 1 line of a reading test and write 1 line of a writing test. (I thought the speaking/writing part of the test was a little funny considering English is my native language. But I understand it's all part of the process). She then asked me some other questions and asked me to sign a form that stated I was swearing allegiance to the United States of my own volition. She then told me I passed and set me back out to the waiting room to wait for a form that had my Oath Ceremony date and time. The wait for the Oath Ceremony form was not bad - maybe 35 mins or so. Once I had that, I was all done and on my way home. |

I arrived at 8:20am for a 9am appointment. Was let up to security check on level 10 and stood in line for about 15 minutes before going through security and being shown up to the 59th floor. Waited about fifteen or so minutes before being called up to the first window where I handed over my passport, proof of payment and the pre-addressed 3kg express post satchel. Was given a sheet to read about the visa and was asked to sit down again. Called up to the same window about five minutes later and signed some forms before going over to the cashier to pay for some photocopying. Sat down again and waited a little while before I was called up to another window to be fingerprinted. Waited (for what seemed like ages, but probably wasn't any more than 30 minutes or so) to be called up for to the interview window. Consular employee asked me when I planned to leave for the US, what my fiancé does for a living, where we were getting married and how we met. (I had a stack of additional “proof of relationship” documents but I didn’t need them.) After a few minutes of him writing things down he looked up and smiled and said "Congratulations, I am approving your visa today." I must have blanked out for a few minutes, because he repeated himself and I then snapped to and thanked him profusely. He then asked if I had any more questions (I didn't) and was advised the visa would arrive in around 48hrs time. All the staff I came in to contact with were all very helpful and friendly. A much easier (and a lot less stressful) experience than I had anticipated. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
