Comments : At the airport, the immigration officer will take your picture and ask if the information on the screen is correct to receive your green card, if it is not, then the officer will fix it right away to be sure your green card and social security card are sent to the right address. After the date of admission, we paid the green card fee online via the USCIS portal (you don't have to pay it until the day you reach the USA) and two days later, the social security card came and then about a month later, the green card came in the mail via USPS priority mail.

Comments : Go to the interview prepared! My husband studied several civics questions from videos, flashcards, and local resources from friends. At the interview, they asked several yes and no questions based on the form you applied for citizenship and they ask questions from the form to test your English literacy. Since my husband already knows English really well, he answered more civics than English questions. Do bring your tax forms and any copies of documents you provided to USCIS, although they may not ask for them. My husband wasn't asked about anything , the officer just started the interview and finished with a breeze in 10 minutes.

And lastly , your ceremony will give you the chance to register to vote and you will get your certificate of naturalization in person. You do have to give up your green card because you would be considered American citizen.

Other than that, the whole process of applying was easy.

Event Description

Embassy Review : My spouse got checked in through his Interview Invitation Letter. They did not scan any documents nor looked at the DS-260. We were applying for IR-1 spousal marriage visa. He went in and got interviewed for an hour. All they looked at was the marriage certificate, health information and pictures. They did not look at any other information. My husband received a green paper, meaning his visa was approved, and is expected to go pick up his passport in 15 days. He will be notified by via email and text message. Like the instructions, you had to register for consulate pick-up, and that is how you'll go pick up your visa.

If you have an urgent question to ask the national visa center it is better to call them. I emailed them a long time ago and I did not receive any response until I checked the website and they were responding to people with inquiries about 2 months ago. Instead, I called them through the immigration line about 24 times until I was given "phone" options to talk to someone. I was able to reach someone within 1hr and 44 min of waiting on the line. The person was very nice and answered my inquiries.

The NVC sent us a a thorough email to apply for VISA. In that email, they list specific instructions with CASE and ID#. We also received the same message in the mail. It didn't take 72 hours to activate account, ours was the moment we logged in then it was fine. Overall, it took about a month to receive our case# and ID # apart from the NVC receiving our case.

To pay for Visa Application and Affidavit of Support Application, they will not let you pay both at the same time. You must pay each application separately. The purpose of this is so that the VISA Center can verify that it is coming from an American Bank Account. After 2-3 days of processing VISA fee, it would say "PAID" on your application portal. I paid both fees separately on the same day together. My problem was that I paid the $325 Immigrant VISA application on the same day of the Affidavit fee and it is already past 4-5 days and it kept saying "Processing". So what I did was check my bank account and the VISA center did take the fees. Once again, I called the busy phone line to talk to someone about my inquiry that my application is paid but it still says "processing". It was a tech problem and in reality, it should not take longer than 3 days for your payment to process. If this occurs to you, I would call them if you want to apply for VISA ASAP. DO NOT EMAIL THEM BECAUSE YOU'LL GET A RESPONSE 2 MONTHS LATER. At the end of the phone call the lady sent my inquiry to the tech supervisors and a few hours later, I logged into my VISA portal and it changed from "Processing" to "Paid".

When you receive Instructions Interview Appointment Letter, follow all directions carefully and make sure you have a few printed copies of your letter. It will be sent to you via email ( petitioner & beneficiary ). Make sure you schedule your medical appointment as early as possible ( as soon as you have your letter). For medical exam, they ask you comprehensive questions, x-ray, urine and blood tests. The medical exam also requires you to give them passport size picture. After medical exam, they gave us receipt which we keep to have for our interview.

My spouse got approved for his visa! Follow the instructions exactly as the email invitation tells you to do. He will receive his passport with visa within 15 days via text message and email. I highly recommend that you practice various questions. For two weeks, I have helped out my spouse prepare for his interview by going over the required documents and asking different questions for the interview. He was confident and had an excellent interview. The officer was friendly but did ask several tricky questions. The time for the interview varies. On average it's normally 5-6 minutes at Dhaka Embassy but for my spouse, it took an hour. It is various on the officer's interest and how your case is.

Track your Passport through the US VISA Site from the country you are receiving it. We received ours very quickly within a few days after the approval from the Interview. Inside the passport are your picture and visa details. Then it will list your visa type and CCD, meaning you don't have to show physical documents uploaded to NVC to the immigration officer in USA.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
