Consulate Review: Jamaica
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 3, 2020
Embassy Review : Though there were pretty interesting times after we received our IL which had us scheduled two weeks from that date and 26 days after DQ, I'd like to focus on the day.

You start out having to get there early, we arrived at 6:30 am for our 7:15 am appointment and there are normally people there who will help park your vehicle for a fee or you may charter a cab/taxi. After that general check in; interview letter, passport pics (they only asked for 2 but their consulate pages says 4) passport and appointment confirmation page. Don't bring with you liquids (you can buy something to drink inside) lip balms, lipstick, smartwatches, phones, flash drives or any thing electronic. After the security check you will be directed to check in at the front desk and when we got there we were sent straight in to sit-down.

At first you observe as the COs get ready (if you're early) and they begin first with biometrics and collecting your passport and original documents (they return them at the end) and then they advise you to wait. The bathroom is close by and you can hear when your name or number is called. Once they're ready they will call you back up (wait time in total was about 2.5 hours from start to finish) to be interviewed. We got lucky and we were taken to a room but they will conduct the interview at the open space they will ask personal questions so be prepared but stay calme and most importantly, TELL THE TRUTH!!!

The office was very polite and nice, said we had a clear-cut case and that he's going to approve the visa, cancelled my tourist visa before me and told me when I can expect to receive it which is a bout 5-7 business days.

This consulate tends move quickly based on some other VJ members experience so be prepared to run around (especially for the medical, that requires a couple hours and at least an extra $25000) to get things in order. A lot of people who did the medical with me were concerned that it would not be sent up in time but we were lucky.

All in all, it was a success and a great experience for me and I hope this helps you in the future.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
