Comments : As of March 22, 2020, we are halfway through our estimated wait to become documentarily qualified (DQ). We expect to have our case reviewed by April 24th, as long as no RFEs are issued. The US embassy in Tokyo, unlike most embassies around the world, is still doing immigration interviews, and we hope to get ours scheduled in mid-May. Flights between Tokyo and the US (i.e., LAX) are still running, though we don't know for how much longer. If we get a visa issued then, but flights from Japan to the US are then canceled, we would only have until mid-November for my wife to get to the US before her visa expires. After that, it's unclear what will happen with her visa status. I've seen embassy notifications from other countries explain that a new process will begin, with new fees and new waiting times.

In June we requested an expedited visa with NVC for a medical reason. The request was granted, and two days after receiving the request the US embassy in Tokyo scheduled an interview for my wife. She hadn't time to get her medical check completed prior to her interview, but the embassy told her to come in for the interview first and she could submit the medical check results afterward.

Did you happen to do the I -129F and send that in also

Yes, we did. But after more than 100 days after USCIS received it, no action was taken on it. The I-129f didn't work at all for us.

Ok thanks because I did it also and doesn’t seem to be working for us either our PD is December 10 2018

You should definitely get your approval soon! If you haven't downloaded the USCIS case tracker app for your phone, you might try to check your status there. That seems to be the most up to date source of case info around.

Once you go for your interview and you get your visa approved how long until do you have to use it to come to the United States before it expires

I'd have to look it up, but I seem to remember that one has six months to use it and come to the US. But with the pandemic, I'm sure there are/will be allowable exceptions.

Have you guys been able to go for your medical yet?
blank avatar JapanResident on 2020-06-30 said:
My wife went this morning, actually. She has to wait a week for her results, which they'll mail to her, and then she'll in turn mail them to the embassy. The medical check went fine, although she would have preferred not to get three vaccine shots all at once. :) Since she already had her interview, we're hoping she'll have her visa in hand in another two weeks or so.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
