Consulate Review: Argentina
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 21, 2008
Embassy Review : We filed our K1 application but 2 days later we got an email saying it was incomplete. Make sure you include a photocopy of the medical exam envelope with the application, not just make "arrangements for a medical exam" like the instructions say. The instructions are repetative and unclear. I think I understand the process now that it is over, so if anyone has questions ask away.

We got the interview date and arrived about 20 minutes before our interview, which was about right. We got through security in about 10 minutes. We spent the next 3.5 hours waiting, but it was actually useful and interesting to hear the other interviews taking place. There were 3 other K visa interviews before us and we overheard their questions and my fiance and I discussed our answer if we were asked the same thing.

When they called my fiance's name, we went up to the window...the interviews are very impersonal and done through a window. We gave all our origenal copies of the required documents. They had our application right in font of them and it had several post-it notes i guess marking items of interest.

The interviewer was kind and professional with us, though i heard one exchange in an interview before ours where he got a little upset with the fiance was answering questions directed to the applicant. Essentially, just speak when spoken to and you will be fine.

He told my fiance in a kind way that this was her chance to convince him she was madly in love. My fiance began to tell her story about how we met. It was pretty much a narrative for the most part, my fiance just telling our history. The one thing that he noticed was that my fiance got a B2 visa after we began dating and he said it was rare that such a visa was issued with a boyfriend in the US. She visited the US on that visa, but she respected its terms and returned to Argentina. The interviewer didn't seem to mind and he made the comment that the consulate was very busy when she had her iterview for the B2 visa and that is probably why they issued it without too many questions.

After some more small talk about where we will live and what I did for a living, he gave stamped VOID on my fiance's non-immigrant visa and told us we had been approved.

Basically, if you are organized, polite, and speak when spoken to, the interviewer will go alright and you'll get your visa.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
