Event Description
Review Date : October 22, 2020
Embassy Review : Our interview was conducted during the COVID pandemic, so it may be different from the usual.

The interview was scheduled at 10:30AM. If you arrive slightly earlier at the consulate, they will turn you away and tell you to come back at your exact appointment time. Don’t bring a bag because they won’t let you in with one. Only bring your documents in a folder or some sort of paper holder.

First was the security check where you go through inspection similar to airport security. After that they tell you to go upstairs where everyone waits for their appointment. You go to the officer’s window to give all the documents they need, including your passport. They’ll hold onto those until they call you up a second time to conduct your interview.

For us, the interview was very brief. How did you meet, what’s your job, are your addresses still up to date, very basic questions like that. Then they tell you you’ve been approved and next steps.
Rating : Very Good

Did you expedite or do you think you are one of the first interviews since the applicants who had interviews cancelled in March and April ??

We were granted an expedite

Would you be able to share any info on the expedite process? Congrats!

Our case was at NVC and was case completed at the time. The only way to expedite is to email NVC directly and provide them grounds and thorough supporting evidence for your expedite request. Then about a week later, they emailed us to let us know that our expedite was approved by the Montreal consulate. If your case isn't complete at NVC yet, then both NVC and the Montreal consulate have to approve your request. About a week after that is when we got notice of our interview appointment from the Montreal consulate directly.

And thanks for the congrats! We're looking forward to this process to be over. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi! I have a quick question for you. For the NVC phase, when you uploaded your birth certificate, did you also include the back? I have an English Quebec birth certificate, but the back has two sentences in French. Curious to know what you did.

We uploaded the front and back, despite the back of ours being blank. We'd recommend you do the same just to be safe.

Would you mind sharing reason given for expedite ? We are also trying to send in a request :( this has just been emotionally taxing on us both
blank avatar Starboogie on 2020-10-22 said:
@Jodikakes&patpat Our reason was medical and financial. We submitted about 15 pieces of evidence to prove our reasons for the expedite request. They’ll be looking for sufficient proof, so send in as much as you can.

Hello! It’s been a while, and I have yet another question for you, since you’re a tad in advance of my timeline. First, congrats on the interview! You’re one step closer to the end :) Curious to get your advice, since you did it. I’m preparing to file N400. This is maybe a ridiculous question, but I’ve been going through so many threads, have not found anyone asking. So maybe that should already answer my question ? but just in case…why not ask you since you did it! For part 9 (time outside US): do you give the info for 5 years, as they request? Or since you’re also filing under the 3 year rule, is it ok to put only the past 3 years? Because otherwise, of course 2 years out of the 5 are outside the US (which looks really bad), since we were officially able to cross the border 3 years ago (like of course we were not in the US until we got approved). Appreciate your time!

@Annierob It’s the past 3 years if you’re married to a US citizen, so we put times for that. We also didn’t remember a lot of the dates so many were estimates. During the interview, the immigration officer might ask you about the dates like why you were back in Canada which isn’t a big deal.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
