Embassy Review : |
The security experience was similar to airport security. We had to take off our shoes, and place our belongings and jackets in the bins. The officers working were relatively relaxed and the process was quick. They didn't check our appointment time, so we could enter 25 minutes before our appointment time. (We wanted to give ourselves some time to find the room).
Once upstairs, we checked in by showing our interview notice, our IDs, taking our temperatures and fingerprints.
We waited almost 3 hours to be called in to see the officer. Because of the letter+number waiting room system they used, it's impossible to tell when you will be called and they don't call the numbers in order. We would definitely recommend bringing a snack, and using the washroom before checking in. There are bathrooms on the same floor as the USCIS offices.
When we were called, the officer escorted us back, we swore an oath, and they checked our documents. The original documents they requested were: passports, birth certificates, and the marriage certificate and license. The evidence of relationship she was interested in was: our jointly filed tax return, joint bank account statement, and the documents listing health insurance dependents. To save time, she took our copies of our passports, the SSN, and EAD since the photocopier wasn't working.
She asked us about how we met, and then she asked select questions from the i-485.
Lastly, she told us that if we didn't hear anything in 120 days to file an inquiry. Our approval came through a few hours after our appointment.
Overall, our experience was pretty positive! The worst part was not knowing what the officer would want in advance, and the long wait time in the waiting room. There were also several lawyers in the waiting room with us that were speaking loudly, not following social distancing rules, and not wearing their masks. The officer who handled our case was courteous and quick in the interview itself, and we were really grateful to have her considering some of the other reviews we read. |

Thanks :)
My timeline is close to yours. Could you please post the next available K1 visa appointments for March and May? Thanks :)
Looks like you just made it in time. Has anything been put on hold for you regarding moving etc. Or; are you allowed to carry on as normal since you were approved and granted the Visa.
Just curious, my appt was booked for April and was cancelled. I responded with the Pkg 3 info, but, no Pkg 4 yet and no contact from the Consulate since March 20/20
Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed!
We were able to move right before the border was closed, but are stuck waiting to get married because the bureaus are closed.
Hey! Did you request an expedite for AOS, or did you just get lucky that you got scheduled for biometrics already?
Hi! Did you get the AP document separate from the EAD? I requested AP only and it got approved 2 weeks ago but haven’t received anything. Do you remember the time difference between approval and in hand? Also, is it a card or a paper?
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
