Comments : I was in line for the passport check for an hour. When it was finally my turn, the officer asked me what the purpose of my trip was. After I said immigration, she took my passport and put it in a box and locked it.
I was told to head over to some officers, who led me into a hallway and told me to follow the red line on the floor all the way to the end.
At the end, there was another desk where they took out my passport and told me to sit and wait for my name to be called.
I had to wait for about half an hour before they called me up. They asked me what my address is going to be, and what the best way to contact me is. After this I was allowed to leave.

All in all, it wasn't difficult, just took a long time.

Consulate Review: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Event Description

Embassy Review : I arrived at 9:00 for a 9:30 appointment, and was told by security to return in 15 minutes. At 9:15, I was let in and went through security. Just like at an airport, I had to take my shoes off.
I was told to sit and wait to be called to the first window, which took about 10 minutes.
When they called me up, they asked for my birth certificate, police certificate, marriage certificate, financial documents (I gave the affidavit of support and tax return my wife submitted to the NVC), DS-260 confirmation page, courier registration, my passport and 2 passport pictures. She looked over the papers, scanned some stuff and put them in a folder. When she was done with my paperwork, she took my fingerprints. After this, she then told me to take a seat and wait for my name to be called.

About 45-50 minutes later, I was called up to the second window where I had to take an oath stating that all I submitted and everything I will answer is the truth.
After which, the lady started going through my papers in the folder and typing it into the computer. Eventually, she asked me how I met my wife, how long we knew each other before we first met in person, where I'll be living after I move, and finally asked me what I'm going to do once I move (study or find work). The whole interview felt natural and not at all like an interrogation.
I answered all the questions truthfully (duh) and then the lady said "alright you're all good to go, here are your original documents back. You should receive your passport with a visa in about 2-3 weeks". I asked her if I still needed to pay any fees, but she said "nope, you paid those a long while ago!". So I thanked her and left the consulate.

Overall, it was a great experience and everybody there was very welcoming. The interview itself did not take as long as expected, though I did have to wait a while. I was in and out in just a little over an hour.
Rating : Very Good

Wow, you already got your approval? Your NOA1 date is 3 days after mine. Did you apply for it to be expedited?
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-01-05 said:
We did not have it expedited, so I was very surprised to receive approval already! I wasn't expecting it for another couple months.

How are things going? Are you guys stuck at the NVC part of the process? We had our I-130 approved today, so just trying to figure out what kind of timeline we're looking at from here on out.

Yay I'm glad you finally got approved! We submitted the DS-260 form back in January... right now we're waiting on submitting the rest until my taxes go through, because I didn't make more than 125% above the poverty line the previous year. They say it takes about 6-8 weeks for them to go through by mail, and it's been 5 weeks now.

Your case was DQ’d in 3 days? Lucky!
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-04-14 said:
I know!! We were expecting it to be several weeks. I didn't believe it when I first saw it
blank avatar Alex Prijn on 2021-04-14 said:
Yeah, it's been 3 weeks for us, no word yet. I see most cases on VJ get DQ'd in anywhere from 3 days to 4 weeks, so have to be a little more patient I guess. :D

I have no idea why everything is going so fast for us, but I'm not complaining! We're still awaiting the interview date, which I expect we'll get soon because our status has changed to "ready".
blank avatar Alex Prijn on 2021-06-06 said:
Any news on your end? Are you really still awaiting an interview date?
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-06-06 said:
I think there was a miscommunication and our case was randomly expedited... It was sent straight to the embassy for them to schedule an interview, and after two months we figured out they've been waiting on us to complete the medical exam before scheduling it. We had emailed the consulate a few weeks ago with no reply, so we sent another and they replied the next day. Very frustrating but I think we're on track again!

Good luck this coming Thursday, I had my interview today and it was a pretty relaxed experience to be honest.

Thank you!! I'm glad yours went well. Also thank you for posting a review to help us prepare!

blank avatar Alex Prijn on 2021-07-15 said:
Same here, first flight out! Congrats on the approval, now we wait. :D Have you been apart for long?
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-07-15 said:
Because of covid, we haven't seen each other since October last year, so it'll be about 10 months by the time we see each other again. What about you guys?
blank avatar Alex Prijn on 2021-07-15 said:
She left to help her parents at the end of November, so it'll be a little over 8 months. It's been rough.
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-07-15 said:
Sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm so glad we're both finally near the end!!
blank avatar Alex Prijn on 2021-07-27 said:
You got the visa! Gratz! Flight booked?
blank avatar Bnoubm12 on 2021-07-27 said:
Yes thank you!! We booked it as soon as the visa arrived!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
