First of all, as most others have said before: They are super friendly there and the interview is way easier than expected!
I had my interview appointment scheduled for 8:30 on February 4th, 2020.
I arrived at the consulate at around 7:50 and maybe waited like 15 min outside to get to the first window. The lady there just wanted my passport and DS-160 confirmation page. She then checked my name on a list, put a sticker on my passport, gave me a number and send me to another entry where I had to go through the security check. Which maybe took like 5 min.
Once I was through the security check, I followed the path outside to the next building, where a man at an information desk checks your passport and then tells you to which window you have to go to check in. For me it was window 22. I maybe waited like two minutes before it was my turn there. The man at this window checked my name on a list, opened my file with all the documents submitted in the past and then he took my passport and kept it. He told me to sit down and wait until my number was called, so I can go to the next window, where they will confirm my information and collect the missing documents.
I waited like ten minutes and then my number was called. I went to window 21 where a woman asked for my missing original divorce decree, which I gave to her. I told her that I also had my medical results in a sealed envelope with me because the doctor's office didn't send it directly since we had a misunderstanding about it. But it was no issue at all and I just gave her the results as well. She told me, my documents all look well and are complete. She confirmed my personal information from the DS-160 and explained to me that I am going to receive my visa within the next 10 days and how the package will look like. She then told me to sit down again and wait until my number was called for the actual interview.
I waited longer this time. I can't tell how long, maybe 30-45 min. Then my number was called and I went to the next window.
I was extremely nervous because our case was a little bit difficult. My fiancé and I made a major correction on our petition. We also have a bigger age gap than usual (17 years), which was noted on our petition... and we were scared they would hold these things against us.
The lady there intruduced herself and asked me if talking in English will be okay for me and I agreed. She was super friendly and smiled and laughed a lot during the interview, which actually calmed me. The questions were:
How did you meet?
Where did you meet for the first time?
How long where you talking (online) before you actually met in person?
Have you met since?
Did you have a proposal or did you just started to discuss to marry?
Well, she then started asking questions about my prior marriage (which was a foreign marriage as well):
Where did you meet? When did you divorce? What did your parents say about it at that time? How long were you married? Why did you divorce?
She then continued with questions about my current relationship with my fiancé:
Tell me about his family. Does he have any siblings? What about his parents?
Does the age gap bother you? Does the age gap bother him? What do your parents think about his age?
Do you have wedding plans?
When do you intend to marry after your arrival?
When do you intend to move to the U.S.?
Are you pregnant?
She then told me, she will approve my visa and that I will receive it within the next ten days. The interview maybe took like 10 minutes in total.
Sometimes I didn't understand her because the microphone was too quiet when she wasn't close enough to it and then I hesitated a little bit longer before I answered to think if I understand her correctly. And everytime I did that, she immediately said "I don't judge you, I am just aksing". Which I found very funny and which also made me feel more comfortable. I explained that it was because of the microphone and she apologized and then got closer to it and spoke louder for me. But we had the situation like 2-3 times and we laughed everytime about it.
I was back at the hotel (Hotel Arena Villa am Wasserpark) at 9:50.
So all in all, the interview was like talking to a friend and it was really less worse than I expected. |

I flew from Hamburg to Washington DC and had a very short layover in Dublin. Up until one day before I flew, I didn't even know that Dublin was a Port of Entry to the U.S. and I was pretty shocked when a friend from visajourney told me about it. I asked at the airport when I checked in, if I will even be able to make it with only 70 min in between my flights. But they couldn't tell me.
When I arrived in Dublin I was thinking that at least I won't have to go through security check again, but I had to. So I was even more stressed and in a hurry.
After the security check I went up to the window of the immigration officer and luckily was the first in line. He took my passport and asked me why I want to go to the U.S. and I told him, I'm coming on a K-1 visa and get married soon. Then I gave him the sealed envelope and he guided me to an area behind a door for secondary screening. He asked me to wait until I get called, so I sat down. There were around seven people waiting and I talked to two of them. They told me, they were already waiting for 45 and 50 min and I was highly concerned to miss my flight. I was the fourth to get called and the officer looked very grumpy and told me in an angry voice that I arrived way too late and that I will probably miss my flight. He added that I literally gave him 5 min to process my case and documents. I apologized and told him I didn't know that Dublin is a POE until the day before. He typed things into his computer without talking to me or looking up once. I already feared he will deny me. After a while he just asked me for my address in the U.S. and kept typing into his computer. I got even more nervous... and then he just gave me my passport back and told me "You are good to go. Run to your gate." And that's it. No questions or anything 😲
I didn't expect it to go so smoothly after all! But I would highly recommend anyone who goes through Dublin and has a layover to have at least 2-3 hours in between their flights. I just had luck that the airport was so empty and the officer so lenient. |

I had my AOS interview on 10/07/2020 at 12:30 pm in Buffalo.
My husband and I went inside the building 15 min before the actual interview. We went through the security check and then to the desk where we had to check-in. The lady at the desk took my picture and fingerprints and then we had to sit down in the waiting area. There were 4-5 other people before us, so we had to wait a while. Probably around 45-60 min.
Then an officer called us and we followed him to an office in the back. We had to take an oath to tell the truth and then we sat down and he went through our application.
He focused on the I-485 and the I-944. He didn't have any of our evidence and supporting documents lying in front of him, only the forms. He asked EVERY question on both forms and checked them if it matched or added something when he wanted more details.
When it came to the assets on form I-944, he asked my husband where around $23,000 in the category "other" came from. My husband couldn't remember and the officer became irritated, so I started looking through our documents (I brought EVERYTHING we ever handed in or collected throughout the whole process), but the officer told me in an angry tone that I should stop looking and better be focusing on the interview because if I answer anything wrong it will be in my file permanently.
Well, the officer skipped the question and started asking my husband about his income. Since there is a huge difference for this and last year, it came up that my husband got laid off this year. The officer didn't seem amused and took notes, so I just interrupted him (maybe not a good idea, but I didn't care at that moment) and told him that I got a job offer and could start next week. I gave him written proof of that offer and he seemed pleased and started asking questions about the job and didn't care about my husband's stuff at all anymore.
When he was done with the forms, he simply asked, if we brought anything to prove our bonafide marriage. Since I thought, he wants to see a lot, I started with the weakest proof. Just bank statements of the same credit card we use. Then he said, "ok, I'm gonna approve you today" and explained the procedure of the approval notice and when the greencard will get send. I let him finish and then told him, that I brought way more evidence and that I copied everything for him and if he wants to have that, too. That was the first time he smiled and talked in a more friendly tone. He wanted everything, but didn't even look at it. He just put it in my file.
He explained that my EAD will be invalid now because my greencard got approved. I told him, I need something as proof that I'm allowed to work because I told my future employer they could copy my EAD the day next day. So he told me, he can put the I-551 stamp in my passport, which serves as a greencard until I receive the card. So we had to go in the waiting area again, while he put the stamp in my passport. Around 10 min later he brought my passport back and told me, we were good to go.
Overall, the experience in Buffalo wasn't too bad. But still stressful. |

Timeline Comments: 14Congratulations... What's your review?
Thank you!
I will write one later when I get home.
But overall it was super easy and everyone was very friendly there. Even though some aspects about our case are a little unusual.
Cant wait to hear all of it as we will be interviewed in Frankfurt very soon
You can also send me a private message, if you want or have any questions.
Congratulations 🎊 I Canceled my trip to Hamburg
Thanks!
Oh.. That's too bad 😟
Hello, How are you?, your my similar timeline and I wanted to know if you heard anything about how long its taking to get approval for working papers and AOS. Hope you guys are doing well with in the current environment.
Hey! I'm fine, how are you?
I honestly have no idea how long the process takes. Unfortunately there are no recent entries for the field office in Buffalo, except for one. So I don't know 🤷ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸
We can just hope for the best and that it won't take too long. Good luck to you!
GOOD LUCK ON WEDNESDAY!!!!! Let me know how it goes :)
Thank you! 😊
I will probably write a detailed review tomorrow, if I find time. But definitely will write one soon!
Were your biometrics re-used/waived for I-751?
No, I had to go in because of a name change.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
