Consulate Review: Sydney, Australia
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 4, 2020
Embassy Review : Interview time was set for 11:30am but my wife and I arrived an hour early.

Going through security and sorting of paperwork on level 10 took less than 15 minutes. It was pretty empty thankfully. We were up level 59 with ticket in hand by 10:44am

From there it probably took a little over an hour to be called up. The lady checking my paperwork was very straight faced. I had my wife by my side to try calm my nerves and kick me if I started talking too much. The only hiccup was her questioning where my sponsors financials were but she must have found it as she handed me back my mountain of paper and told me to wait for the interview part.

I felt a little better about my case as I could hear several people interviewed before me with...well what sounded like not the strongest cases and they were all approved.

The wait was probably a further 40 or so minutes. Without watches or a clock anywhere in sight it was hard to tell. I was eventually called up and had a very nice man. He asked me several questions and it was a all a haze but there are the ones I remember:

How did you meet? (it was a dating app)
What was the dating app?
How long has your wife lived in the country
Who are your sponsors?
Will they be able to financially support you?
Where do you intend to settle and when?
What does your wife do for work?
What do you do for work?
Do you have any leads for employment yet ( I was surprised by this question, and my wife thinks he may have been trying to trip me up, but I answered honestly and said that we intended to settle with her parents first before searching for a place to live and job)

He then said I was approved and asked me if I had any questions. javascript:emoticon('')

I asked him about my medical. Because it was done the previous Friday and it was on Tuesday. But he said they had received it already.

Lastly he said I was good to go and my passport would be returned in the next 2-3 weeks.

USA here we come!!!

Rating : Very Good

Thank you!!! Still doesn’t feel done. Maybe when we get through immigration in LAX haha Best of luck to you both! FYI I left a consulate review with a few more details. Syd consulate was fairly relaxed.

Thanks for writing a review. We'll be poring over those reviews tonight and tomorrow to prep for our interview. They really are super helpful.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
