Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 11, 2019
Embassy Review : Waited about 2h for the whole thing, at the entrance they verified my DS-260, passport and Chronopost envelope.
Security was a bit intimidating, and I wasn't allowed to take my phone in -- security held it before I could enter. Everything else in my pockets (wallet, cash, etc.) was fine to enter with me. Upon arriving I waited in line and had to give the receptionist my passport, DS-260 confirmation, birth certificate, police certificate, and Chronopost envelope with my address written on it. All of the workers were friendly.

Afterwards I was told to wait until my name was called for the actual interview. When it was my turn, I was asked the following:
1. Favorite photo of us
2. When we got married
3. When we met
4. If I lived anywhere other than Portugal
5. How we met
6. Asked to see recent photos (and asked for me to point out my wife in a group photo)
7. If he has any children
8. If I have any children
9. What I do for a living
10. Asked when we got married again

At the end of the interview, they said thank you, took my passport, and said everything is in order but that I need to submit my medical exam documentation. Due to the short notice we received for the interview, the panel physician had not completed my write-up of the medical results yet. The consular officer told me I will be notified of a final decision once they receive that documentation.

How did the NOA2 notification get to you?
Madison S. on 2019-06-12 said:
I was signed up for electronic notifications and received my NOA1 electronically and via mail. My NOA2 came only via mail, though

I’d imagine you’d hear sometime soon given when you got your NOA1. A colleague of mine got her NOA2 today too (for an I-129 for a K1 for her fiancé in Brazil) and applied the same week.

Hello, just wanted to check if you’ve decided your NVC notification yet?
Madison S. on 2019-06-26 said:
No, not yet. I got the 'unofficial' notice (NOA2) and am waiting for the official notice from NVC receipt still.

Same here, hope we both get it soon. Best of luck.

Hi! How did you know that NVC received the package from USCIS? Did you call them or is there any way to check it online?

Hello! I called NVC and (after waiting a long time to speak to an operator), I gave them the USCIS tracking number and they were able to confirm they received it but no case # at that point. Still nothing

How did the interview go? Hope it all went well for you guys.
Madison S. on 2019-11-11 said:
Hi, Interview went well we think. The medical exam results weren't finished in time by the panel physician due to short notice of the interview, so we are waiting for that to be finalized and for the consulate to receive it. We were told we will receive a final decision then, but were told at the interview that everything looks like it's in order and not to worry.
blank avatar GraandTim on 2019-11-11 said:
Congratulations!!!! At least this journey is over for you. All the best in your marriage ❤️
Portorusa on 2020-01-03 said:
The visa is finally issued, yeeeey! Very happy for you guys. And why so long between Nov.6 and Jan.2, were you placed in Administrative Processing? Did it take that long for medical results to reach the Embassy?
Madison S. on 2020-01-08 said:
Yes, we were placed into AP immediately following the interview, since they did not have the completed documents. After some issues, the consulate finally received the medical results on Nov 27, 2019. We were issued the visa on Dec 31, 2019 and notified/updated on Jan 2, 2019.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
