It was a smooth process. They just took my fingerprints, took the yellow envelope from me and stamped my passport. |

I had my interview on May 16th. The consular officer asked me the following questions:
i) Why do you want to go to the US?
ii) How did you meet your husband?
iii) Explain to me in details how you met online, when you first met, who proposed.
iv) When did your family meet him? What was their reaction?
v) Where does his family live?
vi) How did he get US citizenship?
vii) When and why did he move to US?
viii)Why did he choose to relocate to NY?
ix) What's your religion? What's his religion? How did your family react to that?
x) How many times has he seen you?
xi) Show me your wedding photos. (We didn't have a wedding just court marriage. But we had an intimate engagement party which I had photos of. My album was too big so he decided to keep it back and go through it. I also told him that once we have my Visa, we are planning to have a wedding end of this year or beginning of next year). He also said he will go through the communication records I submitted to USCIS and NVC. I gave him some more text/call/email records that I took with me.
That's all I was asked. And then he handed the 221G, he said everything looks good but he'll take a week or two to go through the photos and chat/email/call records and once done they will contact me and I have to drop my passport at one of the 11 drop off locations. They issued a letter asking for my passport on May 18th. I dropped my passport at VFS Kolkata on May 24th. The Visa was issued on May 30th.

Timeline Comments: 2Was your husband at the interview? You had a big gap from NOA2 to case closed, so was that addressing RFEs etc? Thanks
No, we recieved no RFEs from USCIS or NVC. The big gap was because we didn't file taxes. My husband is an US citizen but lived in Australia. He moved to US in December 2014 and was living in a hotel for the first few months until he found a rental apartment. The company he was contracting with never sent out his w2s for 2014 and 2015. Plus he was so busy working and traveling he couldn't file taxes in time. Took me forever to reach out to the company he was contracting to and get his w2s. And then off course we had to file 2014,2015,2016 and 2017 together. Also had to apply for my ITIN since we didn't married filing jointly. Preparing so many years of tax returns took us a few months and because it was paper filed, it took a long time to be approved and get the transcripts. Now everything at NVC stage is uploaded electronically but since we were 2017 filers we had to send out a physical package by mail. They took long to review it and approve it. I had to request supervisor review because it took them longer than normal to give us CC. So yeah, that's why it took us so long at the NVC stage.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
