Consulate Review: Ankara, Turkey
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 24, 2019
Embassy Review : Overall very positive experience. Had to wait ~2.5 hours total. The first officer was Turkish and she asked for my supporting documents: police record, birth certificate (obtaining them via E-Devlet is accepted), medical record, passport photos first, then she asked for I-134's, relationship proof and photos. She asked questions related to our current employment status. Finally, she asked me if I would be comfortable interviewing in English, and although I said yes, I was interviewed in Turkish.

The wait after the first officer was quite long. I was called to the counter in a separate room and my interviewer was a nice Turkish lady. She asked me where/when we met, and if our families have met (we had included a picture of our families together so maybe she was cross-checking that). And that was it! She said everything looked beautiful and the passport would be in our hands within 5 business days.

Rating : Very Good

We are about a month behind you on everything! I am so anxious! Have you gotten your packets and interview scheduled yet?? Any advice that I can use while I am waiting. Just got approved and sent to NVC 04/08/19 for us!

Hi Jessica! Yeah this whole process has not been very fun! So Ankara actually receives the cases electronically, so you should be getting an email from them any day now! The email is actually quite useless and just directs you to their website (https://tr.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee-visa/the-interview/) with the interview instructions listed as a pdf on that same page. You just have to gather the documents that are listed in the instructions pdf before the interview. They don't say anything extra in the email, other then that they have received your case. The worst part now is honestly the interview scheduling. So we've been waiting over a month now to schedule and there are "no appointments available" every time you check. There seems to be a huge backlog going on, so we've just been waiting to schedule an interview. Best of luck!!!

Hey! I didn't see your message for some reason. I got my notice via email on 05/08/2019 that the NVC approved my petition and was transferring it to the Embassy in Ankara, but nothing since then. You got an email from them right away? I'm wondering if that means I should call.

That's okay! Yeah we received an email from NVC, and then two days later got one from Ankara. That is really strange that you haven't gotten one, because we heard from Ankara so quickly. I would probably email them at AnkaraIV@state.gov! They have been fairly good at replying within a day to 5 days. Hopefully you're able to figure out what happened!

Hi! Asking for my daughter. She just got the NO2 couple days ago, her fiancee is a Turkish citizen but has been legally living and working in Rome Italy for the past 8 years. So we are all assuming he will interview in Rome. I am just looking to verify he can obtain the necessary documents via online and if so do they need to be translated? thanks in advance and CONGRATULATIONS :)

Hello! I'm not 100% sure how other embassies function other than the one in Ankara. As for the necessary documentation, he should be able to obtain his birth certificate and police records check online through the e-government website. They will both have a barcode on them to show their validity. As for the translation, I would imagine that they will need to at least be translated to english if he is interviewing in Rome. The police records check is already in english, so it would just be the birth certificate. Once her case reaches the embassy there, they should send you instructions on anything they need and what exactly needs to be translated! Hope this helps :)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
