Consulate Review: Islamabad, Pakistan

Event Description
Review Date : March 6, 2020
Embassy Review : My husband's interview time was for 7:30am. We reached the diplomatic enclave around 5:15am-- we were the fourth car in line waiting for the gates to open. Around 6:30am, the gates opened and everyone started lining up for entry into the building. Once we entered, my husband and I checked in (200 rupees were taken) and got our shuttle tickets (2000 rupees were taken, so 1000 rupees per person for a round trip).

I knew it was a 50/50 chance I would be able to enter into the embassy with him, but since we were on the first shuttle out, I decided to take that chance. Unfortunately, I was not let in to the embassy and found a spot on one of the two benches outside the embassy. The benches filled up quick, so if you know you can't go into the embassy and you arrive later than 6:00am, it may not be worth it to take the shuttle to the embassy since you'll just have to stand.

My husband was called to four separate windows, each requiring a different purpose (document requests, biometrics, interview languge selection, and the final interview). He was asked only three questions:

1. How long have you been married?
2. What does your wife do in the U.S.?
3. What do you do here in Pakistan?

His interviewer disappeared a few times during his interview, which confused my husband, but he said it was all good in the end. The interviewer said we were a smart couple and that we were approved. Took his passport and estimated he would get it back in 3 weeks.

Overall, it was a fast and efficient process. My husband went in after 7:00 and finished up around 9:00. One thing to note though is that my husband said every person who interviewed before him that day (around ~10 people) were all rejected and that he was the first approval of the day. Don't know why that is and why my husband wasn't asked as many questions as some other people here on Visajourney.

Nonetheless, we are incredibly thankful our journey has come to its end. Hope our online status changes soon and we receive the passport sooner rather than later!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
