Comments : I'm including my experience quickly before I forget. If helpful, here is what I brought with me in a binder to the interview (in order):
1. Passport and nexus, and a scan of the passport page and a scan of my J1 visa page (from previous visa)
2. Two 2x2 inch passport photographs and medical documents
3. Birth certificate -- brought the short form and long form and photocopies of both
4. Marriage certificate and the photocopy
5. Police certificate and photocopy
6. Sponsor's I-864 and most recent tax return submitted to NVC
7. My joint sponsor's I-864 and most recent tax return submitted to NVC, and a scan of his passport
8. Sponsor's proof of work and pay stubs
9. Sponsor's proof of domicile -- copy of passport, copy of birth certificate, proof of employment
10. Confirmation of my application through CEAC and interview notice and confirmation page
11. Proof of relationship A: life insurance, renters insurance with both our names, health insurance with both our names, lease together, credit cards together
12. My J1 Visa documentation
13. Printed i-130 and i-130A from 2018
14. Proof of relationship B: flights to see one another, photographs, etc.

My appointment was at 7:30. Arrived at 7 and the doors were locked, kept going back until a line started at 7:20. Waited outside (in the snow!) until around 7:40am. Went through security -- security mentioned that you could have your phone, although I did not. Received a form with your number (mine was 3) and the order the documents needed to be in.

Went upstairs to the appointment waiting room. Luckily all my documents were already in the order requested. I waited about 25 minutes to get called up. He asked for my passport, one passport photograph, my police certificate, marriage certificate, medical results, birth certificate (*long form only*). He did not ask for any of my scans of anything. He asked for the I-864 from both my sponsors. My primary sponsor is now making enough money to meet criteria (when submitted, he was a student). When I mentioned this to the officer, he said he still needed everything from the joint sponsor and he did not look at that new employment information. After going through all of this, he scanned my finger prints. He then gave me a pamphlet to learn about domestic violence in immigrant marriages.

I sat back down and waited to be called for further questioning. After about 20 mins I was called up to a different booth. I swore an oath that I was telling the truth. She asked:
- Where we met
- Where my husband lives now and clarified that it was a change of address since submitting my docs to NVC
- When we met and when we started dating
- If I had ever been arrested in the states or in Canada
- The longest trip to see one another
- How often we see one another
- If I had a nexus (I think this was because she was looking at how often we travel back and forth, and sometimes does not come up if it's through nexus)
- If I've ever changed my name

She did not ask me for any documents to clarify any of the information.

She then said I was approved and handed me the welcome to america flyer, and said I would be receiving my passport with my visa in the next 2-4 weeks.

I hope this helps!

Hey, curious when did you get the letter? I'm trying to figure out the delay between the time I'll receive the letter and the interview - I'm still waiting on that letter. Thanks! Best wishes for the interview, funny time to be doing that on December 31st!

The letter that I got an interview? I got this on November 13th. They give the next months interviews around the middle of the month prior, it that helps! I know - I can’t believe it’s Dec 31! I hope they don’t end up cancelling on me...!

Hi, a quick question since I am new visiting this website. "Case completed at NVC" means the day you have been notified you are DOC qualified and that NVC will start working with the Embassy/Consulate to schedule the interview? Thanks.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
