Hi guys! Have you made it through the NVC process?
YellowDuneBuggy on 2020-12-01 said:
No, we were just waiting to see how things were going with the Covid. We paid today.

Did you need any shots at the medical check-up?
YellowDuneBuggy on 2021-03-18 said:
Yes, I needed to do them before. At GGD or KLM.

Hi I'm trying to align with my employer when we can swap my Dutch contract for a US contract. I was wondering if it really took 6 weeks for you to get your social security number, as that's how long it takes according to the USCIS website.

Yes, it took me 6 weeks, but there's a trick apparently (it sound stupid but the SSA told me this): at a certain point, in your visa application, you will be asked: "Do you need an SSN number when you are in the US?" If you reply "NO", and request it AFTER you are in the US, it takes less time.
Another trick is this: you can call SSA (please, expect a long wait), you can ask them to be put in a "priority list". Apparently it makes the process shorter.
However, you can work without a SSN. In our HR software, there was a checkbox that said: "I don't have an SSN but I will receive one soon".
Things can be different from state to state. My experience was in Texas.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
