Konsulat Review
My appointment was at 7:30. I got to the consulate at about 6:45
There was one person in front of me but the window was still closed. By the time the window opened at 7:25 there were 8 more people behind me. If those the let a couple with a small child and an older lady with a cane accompanied by her daughter get to the front of the line. Unfortunately the gentleman who was there before me and the older lady were not very well prepared or organized and held up the line at different stops quite a bit.
At the first window I handed in my passport and my appointment confirmation print out and was handed my ticket number and then directed on to the next line outside for security. After that I went on to the main building and a friendly receptionist handed me a paper with instructions.
I went to a window all the way in the back and even though I had managed to pass the guy in front of me at security he managed to wiggle ahead of me here again.
Anyways at the first window they just wanted my passport and the confirmation page and told me to take a seat again and they will hand my passport and case file in to the next person and I’ll be called with my ticket number to another window. That window just confirmed my address and phone number asked if I was previously married and when I planned on going to the US and the address there. Then she asked for the tax form for the affidavit. I told I had emailed it in and she said they needed a different form, I told her I only had that because I was I formed that I was all set with what I had sent in. She then said not to worry, that it would be sufficient for the K1. She then handed me a flyer about domestic abuse and told me to take a seat and I’d be called to the interview.
At that point I had gotten ahead of the 2 unorganized people and was the second person to be called to the interview. It took a few minutes but I recognized my passport and watched the officer go through my file reading things and typing information in his computer.
When he called me up he first explained how it would go and then I had to take an oath that I would tell the truth and sign the oath via fingerprints.
He then asked the following questions
Have you lived in any country besides Germany?
How did you and your fiancé meet?
What was your first date?
How did the relationship continue after that?
Where did he propose?
When are you planning on getting married?
What does your fiancé do for a living?
Where are you planning to live once you’re married?
Have you been married before?
Do you habe children?
Has your fiancé been married before?
How much are his children with him?
Where are you planning on getting married?
(He referenced back to my file on the questions, so make sure what you say matches what it says in there)
Then he handed me back the originals of the documents I had sent in and told me “your visa is nearly approved it will take 1-2 weeks for the visa to get to you.†He also handed me a paper that said the same thing. And that was it.
Besides the appointment confirmation page I was asked for no additional paperwork, no continued letter of intent, no proof of ongoing bonafide relationship, nothing even though I had brought all of it.
I was out the door of the consulate by 8:45.
I was a bit taken aback by the “nearly approved “ but I guess the rest is just a formality. |

When I arrived the “other visas“ line was pretty much empty (2 people ahead of me), so I saw the first officer within 5 minutes. I asked which visa I’m coming in on, and when I replied it was a K1 he asked for the visa package which I handed to him. He did not want the x-rays which I had in a separate sealed envelope.
He took my fingerprints and picture and then explained that he will take me to a separate room for further processing. I told me to take a seat and was it until my name was called. When I got to the room there were only 2 other people there, one was waiting like me and the other one was being chewed out by a immigration officer. For the next couple of minutes I sat there listening to that officer telling the guy “you wasted my time and that of my officers... no you don’t get to talk... it is clear from these messages on your phone that you are trying to commit fraud and that you can’t to work here... You want to play games? No I said you don’t say a thing...†and so on. Then he took him to a different room.
I have to say witnessing that did nothing to calm my nerves.
I then noticed the no cell phone signs so I turned mine off and continued waiting. I was pretty nervous and feeling a bit nauseous from the combination of nerves overtiredness, excitement and airplane food. (Thoughts like “ if I throw up now will they let me in? Or will they Quadranten me?†Went through my head)
The room was filling up and I could see the officers reviewing paperwork and information on computers through the window but no name was called for 40 minutes. Then they finally called my name. I nervously gathered my things and took a der breath mentally preparing myself for any questions. When I got to the window, the guy handed me my passport and said “90 daysâ€
I asked “that’s it?â€
He said yes and pointed to the door I was to exit through.
And that was it.
Kind of anti climactic. I think if I wouldn’t have witnessed the scene of them accusing that first guy it would have been a pretty relaxed waiting time and process. And even though I would have appreciated a full sentence I’m glad it was no hassle or the same questions for the umptienth time. |

Timeline Comments: 18Hi! =) I wanted to ask how you got to know that the NVC received your case! =)
Thanks!
We received an email that stated that NVC has received the case
Hi when did you receive your visa? just curious because I had my interview yesterday in Frankfurt and got approved (K1). Thanks!
It felt like it took forever. On the ceac-site the case went from ready to application received and then administrative processing the day after the interview. it stayed on that for exactly a week, then it switched to issued and almost another week later I received the email it was sent and i got it the next day.

We had it on Friday and got approved!!! =)
We had our interview today and got approved.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
