Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom

Event Description

Embassy Review : I was previously assigned to the embassy in Bogota, Colombia but successfully completed my transfer to London in June. Before the interview happened, I received an email to re-upload my documents to the CEAC portal. I did this and then I received a second email stating that they still weren't able to view them. I was then asked to send them via email, so I sent them through thinking that would be enough.

I arrived at the embassy about half an hour early at 8:30am and queued for about 30 minutes for my 9:00am interview. After handing over your DS-260 page and passport for a check at the door, you go through the heavy security. Don't bring a laptop as you're not allowed to take them inside.

I passed through and went to the 1st floor (2nd in America) to wait for the document screening and subsequent interview. My number flashed up and I headed to the booth to have my documents confirmed by a gentleman in the booth. He had to do some work on his end as my DS-260 page was still showing my Bogota case ID (BGT) instead of the newer London (LDN) one.
He also asked if I had uploaded one of my police checks (South Korea) as it wasn't showing up in the system. I had uploaded it twice to CEAC, and emailed it to the London embassy the day before. Luckily, I had original copies and photocopies of all of my documents, so I just handed this to him. He also said there was no record on file of my joint sponsor's tax returns despite uploading it twice to CEAC over the last year, and emailing it to them the previous day. I had one on hand so just handed that over. The last step was giving fingerprints, which went smoothly.

I sat down again and waited to be summoned to one of the neighbouring booths to be interviewed. This was the easiest part of the process as it only entailed being asked a couple of questions such as what my wife does, where we met and where I was planning to live in the US. The officer then said I was approved and asked for address details so they could send the passport back to my US via courier.

The whole process took about 80 minutes after I entered the embassy. Maybe 25 mins in the document + interview booths and then about an hour of sitting around.
Rating : Very Good

Hi guys! Did the NVC ever receive your case?

Hello! They did indeed 25-MAR. I should probably update it, though I thought I had... I'm at the financial point and having to gather documents. I've done absolutely nothing since with the whole COVID thing. Where I'm at... I need criminal checks from all the countries I've lived in. I have 2, but 1 is missing. I need to go to the embassy to request it in person (unlike the other 2 I got online). I'm in a country that will not receive personal requests at an embassy until the local quarantine is over. I'm also waiting on my wife's tax return to come through. Let me know if you have any other Qs!

I may have misunderstood your question... I have an NVC login and I was able to pay the fees. I'm stuck as I can't gather the needed civil/financial documents. That's where I'm at right now! That happened 25-MAR.
