It was about 15 minutes before my actual interview time when I was let through the Big Black Gate. After that I had to wait some more to hand over my phone and mp3 player ... and I was still in the building at exactly 1330. Very punctual
The very friendly man at window 5 took my passport, the two photograps, originals and copies of marriage certificate and birth certificate. He gave me my x-ray & vaccination sheet back, with instructions, and then the original certificates. I had to remind him of the DS-230 part 2
I waited for about 5 minutes and then the consular officer called me to the next window. I swore I filled everything by myself and truthfully while holding up my right hand, and she had me sign the DS-230 part 2. The interview was basically a short conversation: so, when did you get married? Have you been to Michigan before? I babbled for a bit
Then, she said everything was in order and voila, I was done. It was about 10 to 2.
Outside I stood in line again to get my phone and player back. One of the security guys told me his collegue would come help me in a bit. The guy went in and came back with my stuff ... but there seemed to be a bit of a hustle 'n bustle going on behind him ... and then he asked: what's your name? I told him and he said: you have to come back in!
Aaaaah! *gasp*
So, escorted by a security officer I went back in. I'm sure it looked like I was about to be deported or something ... and I'm sure my face echoed my fear. The friendly man at window 5 smiled reassuringly and said: We forgot to take your fingerprints.
Oi.
The even friendlier woman at window 6 apologized and said how lucky we all were that I was still outside! I couldn't agree more.
Then, her fingerprinting box didn't work so we had to change windows.
Then, the computer said that box was too dirty so she handed me a wet towelthingie so I could clean it.
Then, I had to put my fingers on the damn thing about 6 times BUT after that everything was fine. Jokingly I said: Well, I'll be outside for 5 more minutes if something needs to be redone! She laughed at that
All in all, a very short painless experience and the about 5 kilos in emails and other evidence I caried around wasn't even acknowledged. Still, I'm glad I was as prepared as I was |

Short, sweet and smooth: couldn't have taken more than 15 minutes ... including waiting. Our luggage was still being offloaded when we were done.
My advice: smile your way through it, and Philly will smile back |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
