**K-1 Visa interview in Guayaquil (not Quito)**
After we were approved with USCIS things moved rather quickly, although there were significant delays in recieving the NOA2/approval notice due to a computer glitch & the Package 4 -- which was not sent DHL mail, but via Ecuadorian national mail. So, we downloaded Package 4 online and had everything ready which got us in faster for an interview.
My fiance's interview was scheduled for 7 am & he arrived very early before any place to buy coffee was open! Anyway, he waited through the lunch break to be called in the afternoon. The interview proceeded through a thick glass window and he had little oportunity to ask questions or clarify answers. This was important because the immigration Officer asked him repeatedly if he had been to the US before. He hasn't and replied that he hadn't. He stated he's never even been out of Ecuador. She eventually asked him to have digital fingerprints taken for the cost of $85!! And said that she would be checking his US "police" record = I think Border Patrol records. She also sent him away with a long form that required him to go to the Ecuadorian Immigration and get a migratory history form. He then mailed (via DHL) that back in with his passport & was informed that we would hear something in 5 working days. After an anxious 4 days, I called the Consulate with a Banco de Guayaquil pin (what a sweet set-up for BdeGYQ and DHL!) where they told me we would have to wait another 30 days!!! But, they gave me a direct consular # for US citizens (i will list it later bc i don't have it with me now) and I called at the 5 day mark. I spoke with someone in English who informed me that we had been approved just the day before and our visa and passport were already sent via DHL. He got the visa/passport the next day!!
So after a sad day on the interview day and anxious wait following, things turned out well. I'm still not sure what prompted the Officer to think he had been here illegally before -- his age? that he's from Cuenca? his occupation=security guard? who knows?!? I'm just glad that he's on his way and hope for no more snaf-PHOS! |

After submiting our I-129F application, I realized that my fiance's Letter of Intent to Marry said he was asking for a V-1 visa instead of a K-1! I'm not sure why or how that mistake happened, but it made me extremely nervous. So, I decided to go to my field office to ask them if it would be a big problem. I had a 9am apointment and got right in. The office was pretty easy to find and well marked. The staff was friendly and efficient. And the officer I spoke with was very nice and reassuring! |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
