On 10/26/22 received notification that prior biometrics will be reused for this case and no appointment will be needed for ROC. I-551 stamp was received via infopass appointment prior to applying for ROC due to losing original conditional green card (lost wallet). |

Embassy Review : |
We arrived at the U.S. Embassy at 7:20 AM for our 7:30 AM appointment time. We were instantly asked for passports and appointment letter and taken through security. We were allowed to store our cellphones, his watch, and other misc. items in a locker (you get a key and number on a chain to collect later). I kept my purse with me with the items that they did not take for the locker. After security, we sat in a waiting area with a number card that we were given waiting to be called.
Not long after being seated we were called to the first window for document collection. We got an African American woman who only spoke English. There wasn’t much to translate as she just requested the folder from Havana document check, medical exam, 2 passport photos, and to take his finger prints. After that we were asked to sit back down to wait for the interview. We finished this part by 8 AM.
Then the long wait where the nerves kicked in. We were soooo restless we didn’t get called to the window until 10:15 AM! The interviewer is trying to piece together a timeline and make sure everything makes sense. He asked my fiancé:
- Where does she live?
- What type of place does she live in?
- Does she have children?
- When was your divorce final?
- When did that relationship end?
- Why did you two break up?
- When did me and him start dating?
- How did we meet?
- How frequently have I visited?
- What does she like to do in her free time?
- What were our plans for wedding?
He did ask to see photos at the very end. Luckily we were equipped with a ton of photos together AND with family (his and mine). He was especially interested in seeing photos of us with my mom and daughter and my wedding gown. I also added color when he asked about our wedding plans...I highlighted that our venue was secured, the date, and where it would take place. I highly suggest attending the interview with your significant other because they get nervous and it's helpful to be there to correct or add context to their responses.
Towards the end of the interview the interviewer said “ok all sounds good just give me a few moments†which reassured us to know all was ok. He casually said “felicidades†and gave us our approval paper with pickup instructions and date five business days later (said it could be sooner if contacted). We were outside by 10:30 AM, elated! I’m currently still in shock pero estamos aprobados!!!! |

Timeline Comments: 13Our timeline is very close, maybe we will be in Guyana at the same time. Good Luck :)
Thanks @joritta! Good luck to you as well. :-)
Hi,
Your timeline was short, we are hoping we have the same luck and trying to prepare things ahead of time. Did you appointment papers/instructions say how long the police and military records are valid for? We were thinking of getting them early as I am visiting cuba next month and can bring them back to get translations done but I don't want to jump the gun by getting them too early and have to do it again. Some consulate pages say they must be dated not more than 1 year before the date of the interview but Guyana doesn't state a timeframe on the website.
If you don't mind, a second question. Were you permitted to pay the visa application fee online or do you have to pay it in person when you arrive in Guyana? Thanks and sorry for bombarding you.
Are you on Facebook? There’s a page California dreamin Cuba, and Chicago meets Havana , you should check them out, it a group page full of answers and support, My Interview is June 17th, would not have done this without support , I paid my visa through a visa service in Guyana, but you can pay when you arrive at least 5 days before your interview. The papers has to issue within the last 6 months,
Thank you and thanks for the recommendation on the FB pages
Hi LaBeach, yes our timeline has been quicker than the average. I believe the only document that has a expiration date is the criminal record and it is for six months.

@LaBeach regarding visa fees you can pay yourself in Guyana (at least here business days before your interview date) or have someone in Guyana pat it for you before you go. I’m currently having someone who recently interviewed pay mine. You just have to obviously email them the payment sheet to bring to the bank and send them the money. My person will mail me my receipt once they’re back in the states. No paying online. Best of luck with everything!
J&E- on 2022-10-27 said: Hi ! how did you get the stamp?
@J&E Call USCIS and make an infopass appointment at your nearest field office. You have to have a pending application (of any type) in order to get an appointment. My husband got an I-551 stamp before filing ROC because he lost his wallet with green card and we had upcoming international travel. He had to submit an I-90 application to get the appointment at the time.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
