What a nightmare! Prior to being military transferred to Bahrain, I called USCIS hotline to inquire if Apple needed to request Advance Parole since she is listed on my military orders and has a military ID card. USCIS said "No, because while serving on US military orders, you are considered to still be in US territory." About a month after arriving in Bahrain, we were notified that her I-485 was denied on grounds of abandonment- leaving without advance parole! I called USCIS military holine and they said it was a mistake, that they would request reinstatement. Shortly after that, our online status changed to "we received your reply to our RFE, case has resumed processing". To this date (1 March 2008) that status STILL shows. Reason? USCIS stops updating status online when they deny a case. So for 6 months, we thought we were still being processed! I involved our US Senator. He was no match for USCIS. Bottom line is that we have to RE-FILE! Almost a year and more than $700 wasted so far. This time, we are trying Direct Consular File via the embassy here in Bahrain. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
