Update: 12/31/2021 Received GC in mail but error existed on card so filed I-90 application to replace. It’s been over a year and still waiting on new GC. However, in June 2022 need to put application in for the 10 year GC.
Had to get passport stamp twice in order to travel.
Old:
Original interview date was scheduled April 10, 2020 but delayed until September 2020 due to COVID-19. Approved after interview (received GC, but had typographical error) Had to file an application to replace the GC (in which) could take up to a year or more.
Newark, NJ takes almost a year for an interview. Our case says Ready for Schedule of Interview since 10/18/19.
Also July 8 & August, the postman did not deliver the NOA 1. This made me very anxious and upset at times. Everyone had the correct address and I spoke with mail carriers twice and a supervisor from the main mail plant. Plus he was getting other mail to that box, it was just USCIS mail that was not delivered until we got the biometrics letter in late August, 2019. Never received the original NOA1 notices for the I-485 application.

Post office claimed they could not deliver on Thursday (in the regular mailbox). We were both home and the mailman could have buzzed our number so we could have let him in the building, but I guess he did not know.
Also filed an expedited EAD on 10/17/19 which was approved, but EAD/AP was approved the next day after. |

Embassy Review : |
We arrived, cannot take a cellphone or any other electronic device in. Must pass through metal detectors. Then you stand in one line only to be directed to where to sit on the outside benches. Eventually you enter a building and given a number to stand at a window. The person ask questions and looks at some documents, you get a brochure on domestic violence. You are given another number and told to have a seat in the front. Basically the experience is similar when you go to a Social Security office in the US, you are given a number and then you wait to be called. We had to wait almost 1-2 hours before we saw the interviewer. He was very nice. I had a photo album with me with all documents and photos that I spent months preparing but the interviewer did not want to look at it. I felt like I had to beg to show him. We were approved on the spot and left the embassy.
I drove from the place we stayed (BnB house-close to embassy). Directions were easy to follow. There still was a lot of traffic getting there at 7 am in the morning. Finding Parking was not as easy, however people are on motorcycles directing you to parking which was very helpful. There is no parking at the Embassy directly, but many lots that do not charge much (250-600 pesos) within walking distance. The embassy is in a nicer area of Santo Domingo but it still has a lot of people. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
