When I scheduled my interview with Sydney, I requested for my fiance to attend the interview with me, and they let security know. I'm from Brisbane so I flew into Sydney on Monday morning with my fiance and stayed at the Travel Lodge at Martin Place. We paid an extra $40 for a late, 1pm checkout the next day.
My appointment was scheduled for 8AM on the Tuesday so I arrived at the MLC centre at 7:30AM. I went up to level 10 and took a seat on the chairs outside of the security area and waited for them to open. The elevator wasn't working to take us up to the interview area so the consulate opened a little late, but to be honest this didn't bother us because they let everyone know that no one was going to miss their appointment.
After an hour or so I went through to a desk where someone checked my documents as per the checklist. Subsequently I went through security (just like airport security) and gave them our phones to hold onto. I sat in a new seating area and waited to be called to go into the elevator.
I took a ticket and a seat after getting off of the elevator. We were called up to a desk where a lady checked all of my documents and handed me back a few of them (payslips, extra tax transcripts, bank letter) and told me to give them to the CO if they ask for it. I took a seat again and waited for my ticket number to be called. Finally, I went up to be interviewed, with my fiance.
I was asked the following questions:
1) Who is with you today? (referring to my fiance)
2) When did you meet?
3) How did you meet?
4) Have you been to the US?
5) (Question to my fiance) Have you been to Australia before this?
6) Where do you stay in the US?
7) What do you do for work?
8) When did you get engaged?
"Your visa is approved" the CO said. The interview was only 3-5 minutes long!
Once getting to the interview, everything went smoothly and the CO was nice. I was out by 10:30am even with all of the elevator troubles.

I (and my USC fiance) entered via Vancouver with no problems. We had just gotten off a flight from Australia and instead of scanning my passport at the kiosks like usual, I was sent to a line which was meant for people entering with visas. I was called over to a desk, handed over my passport and the visa paperwork package, and the officer asked a few questions (simple ones like "where will you be living?"). I was then sent to the back room (I'm guessing they do interrogations here too) and I took a seat while a different officer went through the paperwork and entered some stuff into the system. First, I was called up and was asked a few simple questions ("are you ready for marriage?", "can you verify your new address?", "do you understand the terms of your visa?"). The officer proceeded to explain the K1 visa anyway and provided correct information. He then called my fiance up and asked him if he was ready for marriage and then sent us on our way. Overall everyone was friendly and it wasn't stressful. The lines were short as they usually are at Vancouver early in the morning, so we were in and out within 30 minutes. |

I was scheduled for my AOS interview for 8:50AM, I arrived at 8:30AM and went through security, went up an escalator and checked in for the interview with my notice that was mailed to me. I waited around an hour before I was called up to my interview with my husband.
The interview was straightforward, we were asked about where we live, the timeline of our relationship and what our wedding day was like. We were asked for photos from our wedding day, which I had on hand. I was asked to name the people in one of the photos. I was also asked for any other evidence which could prove that we live together, so I handed over some utility bills and proof of my husband and I being on the same health insurance.
At the end of the interview I was told that the IO would be recommending me for approval. Within 48 hours my status changed to 'new card is being produced'. Overall, a calm and stress free experience. I was adjusting status from a K1 visa. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
