Had an awesome experience. Our appointment was at 9:30 and they actually let us go in at 8:30. We had two checkpoints for documents and then was provided a turn to wait for the interview. We waited about an hour or so and then were called into to the window. The consular officer was very nice, smiling and all. She asked my husband the following questions:
1) Who was with him?
2) Asked what my name was
3) How did we meet?
4) Was it love at first sight?
5) How did he propose?
6) What was my occupation?
7) Where did I live?
8) Do I leave alone?
9) Was I born in the United States or naturalized?
10) How long have I been a citizen?
After that she said she need to review some docs. She gave my husband the domestic violence pamphlet to review while she checked something on the screen. Then she asked my husband his age and he responded that he was 25 and she explained that she was required to give him a Selective Service pamphlet. Then she gave us a piece of paper that said the instructions for paying the immigration fee. and she said your visa has been approved, congratulations. As expected we are super happy and excited. I checked the visa status last night and it said issued, so I am just waiting for the instructions for pick-up.
Overall it was an awesome experience, we were there for a total of three hours which honestly flew by. |

Timeline Comments: 5Hi there, we are also in Bogota awaiting the interview for my husband's visa. Did you receive your appointment notice by email or snail mail? If by mail, did they send it to your US or Colombian mailing address? Thanks in advance.
W & J on 2019-10-31 said: Hello, we received the notification via email, but it depends on whether NVC will categorize your case as electronic (which means you will get all email notifications) or paper which means snail mail. We didn't do anything specific to be selected for electronic though- it is up to NVC.
Thanks so much for your response! We finally received our appointment date by email. Would you also mind telling me how long it took for the passport with your visa to be returned to you? And did you pay for the premium shipping? Not sure what that is exactly and if it would be worth it. Thanks so much!
W & J on 2019-11-25 said: Glad to hear you got your interview. Instead of shipping it to an address we selected that we would pick it up at their office. We didn't pay any premium or anything. This took a couple of days- our interview was on Thursday and we got notification on Friday that the passport could be picked up that following Monday. So it was only a couple of business days this way. Hope this helps!
Perfect, thats actually what we were planning on doing too. Glad to here it didn't take long. Thanks for your help and congrats on getting to the states!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
