Bring all your info back to pick up the visa. The consulate lost my 230 form as well as another couples original 130.
The Montreal consulate is moving away from issuing visas the next day, and will now only send them back via applicant-supplied Canada Post mailers. |

Although I say no harassment there is no doubt the border guards were on the rude side of things. Although I appreciate they may need to be rude to some people considering their job is based on being suspicious of everyone, but I thought they went overboard with everyone I witnessed them deal with in the hour it took them to process my visa and possessions. |

Initial interview was Sept 13, 2007, but I asked for a change. They lost the letter and denied my AOS, but I made an infopass and brought proof of the mailing from USPS and they eventually rescheduled the interview. The interview itself was simple, we went over the application, we gave her the evidence we assembled, and she said the file would be reviewed in the afternoon and we would hear by email of the decision, which came at 4:15 pm. |

Interview was in Fairfax, VA. Very easy, about 15 minutes and done. Officer reviewed the application, asked for both my current and previous passports to back up my traveling, which I do allot for work, my drivers license and PR card. Asked questions 21, 22,27, 40, 69, 78 from the Civics test. Say "Who pays taxes?". Write "All citizens pay taxes". He told me that I had supplied sufficient info to show that I was still married so he didn't need to see anything that I had brought with me. In conversation he told me that most people fail the N-400 process because they do not speak/write English well enough. You are on your own in the interview, so if you can't understand the Officer, you probably won't pass. |

Our K3 interview was Jan 11th at 2:30pm. My wife and I arrived about 15 minutes early and there was just one other person at the security checkpoint. The guards were friendly and passage was easy since we followed the guidelines that came with the interview appointment letter. They sent us to the 19th floor to window 12 and there were maybe 10 people there altogether, some alone and some with spouses/fiance(e)s (I understand the mornings are much busier than the afternoons). When called up they took our name and appointment letter then we sat back down. Called up again we had to give the original and one copy of all the items from the checklist that came with packet 3, for us that was the birth certificate, marriage certificate, my divorce certificate, police certificate, forms 156 and 156k. Also they wanted two photos and of course my passport. Then we sat down in the main waiting area until they called my name and we went into an interview room. The interviewer was very polite, he thanked us for keeping an organized and easily readable application saying that made their job so much easier, he asked how we met and what we did for work, took my fingerprints and said that was it! He also mentioned that they are moving to only sending back visa's through Canada Post Expresspost mailers which have to be provided by the applicant, but since our interview letter gave us a choice we could pick ours up at 12 noon the following day. We were back on the street and celebrating in just over an hour from entering the building.
When we returned the next day they said they couldn't find the original DS-230 that I had sent them back in October and needed it before giving me the visa. After the interview I thought they had everything they needed so I left all my paperwork back at the hotel, but when I offered to go back and get the copy they said I could fill one out by hand if I wanted to, which I naturally did and walked out with the visa in about one hour.
Overall it was a simple and pleasant experience, but I was surpised they had lost my paperwork and not noticed it at the interview. Talking to another woman who was picking up her visa, she said they had lost her original I-130 form and were deciding what to do since her husband had already left to go back to the U.S., and technically he had to sign the 130. I also talked to two other people who had to return to the embassy to bring them more paperwork, one person having been called at their hotel room. So if possible I highly recommend staying over an extra night in case something goes wrong with your application. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
