Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 3, 2019
Embassy Review : After talking with my fiancee, she told me that she had a very straightforward and pleasant experience. She spent about 3 hours in the consulate in total. During her interview, she had questions such as "how did you and your fiancee meet", "how often has your fiancee visited you", "what does you fiancee do for a living", etc. (We used visajourney's interview question guide to help us prepare.) She wasn't thrown any curveballs and she wasn't taken off guard. My fiancee suspects that the decision to approve or deny a visa is, for the most part, made ahead of time and that the consulate officers use the interview as a means of verification.
Rating : Very Good

Are your dates in fact correct? If so congrats.

I was wondering the same thing because we have the same noa1 date and didn't expect the uscis is to be in May until late next week. If it's correct congrats.

Thanks! My NOA1 had a receipt date of May 3, 2018. However, I must admit that I updated the NOA 2 date based on the the results that I saw from the USCIS website and not from the actual receipt of the physical letter (which I expect to receive in a week). I logged in yesterday and it said "On October 19, 2018, we approved your Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e), Receipt Number...". To me, this statement is essentially the same as NOA2 date and that's why I updated the timeline with that way. Let me know if this Oct. 19 confirmation by USCIS is different from the date I'll see on the NOA2 letter.

Wow, so you are a May filer?? We sent out package April 30 but our noa1 was May 3. Congrats again.

Thanks! I'm sure you will hear back soon. I sent my package on April 27, but it was transferred to the California Service Center in May.

Just got my NOA2 in the mail. The approval notification on the website is the same as receiving the NOA2.

Great, thanks for the update.

Hey congratulations on the approval!! May I know if you have an idea about how many visits are required for the Mumbai embassy? I’ve met my fiancé twice. :) thanks and congrats again!

Hey Dee & Will, Thank you! I don't know if there is a hard rule for the number of visits that you need to visit each other in India. I've visited India about 9 times over 6 years when I was dating my fiancee. I not only visited her, but also visited her family and introduced my family to her as well. The more important thing is that the Mumbai consulate wants to see proof of a relationship. This means showing the officer photos together over all of the years you've known each other, visa stamps in passports, airline tickets, text/whatsapp transcripts, Skype call times, etc. I'd be happy to answer any other questions, but I think that two times should be enough to prove to the consulate officer that you know each other well, provided you spent enough time with each other.

Did you expedite your EAD/AP? If not, where did your EAD/AP get filed after you sent in the applications to Chicago lockbox?

Oh no! The website kept saying "query failed" so I refreshed the page a few times and now it just got posted a million times. Sorry about that.

No worries. No, I actually never received my EAD/AP. I had my green card interview before receiving the EAD/AP so I just updated my EAD/AP approval dates to match my green card approval date.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
