Event Description

Embassy Review : My AOS based on marriage interview was scheduled on June 26, 2018, at 8:45 AM at the USCIS Norfolk, VA Service Center. My husband (USC) and I arrived at the building at around 8:00 AM but didn't enter until about 8:15 AM. We handed our appointment letter to the security officer and he asked for our ID's and then we went through an Airport-type of security. We were instructed to fall-in-line at the information desk to check-in. The lady at the information desk asked for our appointment letter and our ID's. She asked us if we have any lawyer or interpreter and we answered her, no we don't. Then, she directed us to take the elevator to the 2F of the building and wait at the lobby until our names are called.

We waited in the lobby for about 10-15minutes, then, an African-American IO called my name. My husband and I greeted her good morning and she greeted us back and then she introduced herself (I forgot her first name but her last name is Ladson). She walked us into the back office. She told us to remain standing and she swore us in before asking us to be seated. She explained the reason for this interview and asked us if we have any questions. When we said no. She asked for my passport and our ID's (state and my EAD). She took my photograph and the fingerprints of both my index fingers. She returned my passport and our ID's after verifying on her computer.

She reviewed the I-130 with my Spouse. She asked my spouse his full name, his DOB, his current address, where is he working and for how long he has been working there. She asked him if he had been married before this marriage and who my parents are.

She asked me the names of my spouse's parents, if I had been married before and if I had any child in any part of the world. She asked if I had used any other names and my date of birth. Then, she went over the yes/no questions on the I-485 with me. She asked me that since I have an approved I-140 from my previous employer, why didn't I adjust through that basis and I told her that I'm in the EB3 category and the visa was not current at that time. She said, "I got you!"

She asked, "What other evidences did you bring for me today?" I started giving her copies of our joint bank accounts (both savings and checking), copies of our utility bills (Cox and AT&T), our joint 2017 Tax Return and W2s, some photos from our wedding and copies of our car insurance bill. I told her I have a copy of our leasing contract with me, but she said that she already has a copy of that when we sent in our application. She put it all in the folder in front of her then asked us when and how did we meet, how long the dating was before we decided to get married, how did my spouse proposed to me.

She said she believed that we are a real couple and that she will recommend for the approval of our application. She said that it would take 2 weeks to 120 days for me to receive the green card. Then she told me the next process- removing the condition before our 2nd year wedding anniversary.

She stepped out for a few seconds and when she returned she handed me a white paper with my name, date of the interview and the name of the IO and a box ticked off stating: "Your application/petition has been recommended for approval. At this time, it appears that you have established your eligibility for the immigration benefit for which you have applied. If final approval is granted, you will receive your approval notice by mail."

Overall, the interview went very smoothly. The IO was very nice, thorough, and very professional.

Thank God that we are over with this process.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
