Embassy Review : |
The embassy was very helpful and timely. They were very helpful in answering my questions prior to the interview via e-mail and telephone. They also accommodated my wishes to be interviewed asap in September (we received NOA2 in late July and I needed to be in Boston early Oct for a friend's wedding). I've heard that they normally schedule interviews only for Thursdays, but they were able to interview me on Friday morning.
The interview itself was very short and smooth. I arrived at the embassy half an hour before my interview, but the security told me they don't let anyone in that early. They said to come back 5 minutes before my interview. i came back and went through security. From there I went to the consulate section and I gave all the required paperwork to the person at the desk. I was asked to sit down and wait until the consul interviews me. I had to read information about IMBRA, etc. In a few minutes the consul invited me in for an interview. He asked approx. 10 questions about how we met, what my fiance does for a living, when I'm planning to move, where we will have the wedding, what I'm going to be doing for work once I get the green card, if my fiance has been to Estonia. At the end of the interview they said I'm approved and will receive my paperwork and visa with passport next week. They promised to call already the next business day so I can pick up my visa.
Overall, very polite and nice people. |

Everything was smooth and easy. When we got off the plane, I stood in the "blue" line for people entering on visas or with the ESTA program for the first time. After 15 minutes of waiting I walked up to the booth and gave the officer my passport. She asked me why I don't use my F1 (student) visa anymore and I explained that I graduated already two years ago. She opened the K1 envelope, asked me two questions: 1) does my fiance still live in his address, 2) when and how did we meet. Then she told me we have until January 1st to either get married, or if I decide not to marry him, I need to leave before that date. The interview took around 5 minutes. Then I walked to baggage and got a cab. From airplane to cab it took around 30 minutes. |

Embassy Review : |
We had our i-485 interview at the Boston office. We chose to take an Uber, since that area is impossible for parking. I recommend an Uber or public transportation, if possible.
When we arrived we were waiting in the large waiting area where they shout out applicants' names based on who is going in for an interview. This was a little bit chaotic. For us, my husband (USC) was interviewed alone at first and then they invited me in, I gave an oath and they asked me the same questions to see if our answers matched. They also went over some items on the i-485 form. At the end they asked if I want to submit any additional evidence, but it's not required. I gave copies of our joint health insurance, joint bank account, joint phone plan. They told us at the interview that we are approved and should receive the card in the mail in 2-3 weeks.
My friend has a wedding in Europe in two weeks and I asked if there is any temporary document they can give me if the physical card doesn't arrive in time for the trip. The officer introduced me to his colleague who offered to help me get the stamp in my passport for the trip.
The officer seemed very intimidating at first, but once he told us we are approved he was very friendly and helpful. |

Timeline Comments: 2I am so happy for you! Thank you for posting the review also, its hard to find other Estonians talking about their journey. I'm hoping for October/November interview. Can I ask about the medical appointment? How long it took to get that scheduled (if its a requirement for a K-1 visa)?
L-h on 2018-09-29 said:Thank you! I am happy to tell you about the process. Once I called the medical center, I got an appointment in 7 days. After the appointment, they gave me the results in 7 days. So from the first phone call it took two weeks to get the results.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
