Good luck with your interview!! Can you tell me is five months typical for the embassy to give an appointment for the interview?

I do not think it is typical though I've only done this process this one time. When we were submitting our AOS paperwork, they required extra documentation and we (me, my husband, my lawyer) didn't see they needed extra documentation so we sat for 3 months basically thinking we were waiting for our interview when in reality they were waiting on more paperwork from us.....Make sure to triple check everything they ask of you even if your lawyer (if you have one) says it's good because our lawyer was obviously wrong....

We are checking on the website it looks like currently its taking them five weeks to even view the documents submitted. We submitted them August 23rd so I hope for an interview shortly.

What additional documents did they ask? I know we have to obtain my husband documents again for the interview. I heard marriage certificate, birth certificate, and police record cannot be more than 30 days old for Tunisia.

They just can pretty much ask you for anything I guess. For us, they wanted tax returns as well as transcripts, then w2s to match all the tax returns. Just keep your eyes open. If I was to go back in time I would've called the nvc number right after I thought they had everything just to make sure....It's awful having to wait an hour for them to answer, but it was worth it in the end. If I hadn't called them randomly that one time I might still be waiting, thinking I had the interview. Also once they have all the documents they need they will send a message on the website saying you are "documentarily qualified". All I've heard about the age of the documents thus far is that the bulletin 3 can't generally be over a year old...

I'm still waiting on the nvc to accept my documents and schedule the interview.

Yes Erin how was the interview

My husband was approved. He said things were actually very straightforward and easy for him but I believe that my being a resident of Tunisia, and living here with him for a year now has a lot to with that. I wish everyone good luck with their interviews. Make sure to take everything they ask for.

Thank you! That was such a long process....really :'(
blank avatar RaRachel on 2019-09-20 said:
What questions did they ask your husband? Yes its such a long process.
blank avatar Erin Mader on 2019-09-20 said:
They asked him what we did together, did he plan to stay living in the US, and how did we meet ...These are all pretty standard questions that any couple could answer, but I guess they structure them in a way that can sound confusing. I'm sure there is a purpose to it and honestly I think it really depends on who is doing the asking as another fellow who my husband met during his medical went in after us and was really questioned hard about facts and details. I would say it's always good to know your spouse and their family really well and answer them clearly with detail.
blank avatar RaRachel on 2019-09-20 said:
Thank you, I'm sure having all the required paperwork helps.
blank avatar Erin Mader on 2019-09-20 said:
Yes, I honestly took way more than what was asked for to be safe. I felt like it was better to make sure he had whatever they might need, and that it was all correct in any case. I noticed you inquired about the dates on the birth certificate and bulletin 3. Well, my husband's were older than 30 days as they hadn't processed a new bulletin 3 for him quickly enough (they take forever in Tunisia), and his birth certificate was the same. We just took the papers we submitted to the NVC.
blank avatar RaRachel on 2019-09-20 said:
Ok good to know I have just heard others say they require them to obtain new ones if they are older than 30 days. I think we will just get new ones just in case. Plus I know we need a few copies when he comes here.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
