Consulate Review: Sri Lanka
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 30, 2007
Embassy Review : Interview was at 1 pm but we werent let in until after 1.15pm. Because of this we missed 2 announcements asking to had in the interview letter at the counter .So we sat there for 2 hrs before someone noticed us and asked for the interview letter. This happened to several other people as well. The security folks at the gate are not the nicest people around.
Interview was nerve wracking because the Consular Officer(CO) thought our relationship was not genuine. However, my Fiancee brought a lot of photos of us together with her. Once the CO saw the photos she approved the visa immediately. Turns out that the USCIS do not send the photos to the Embassy and so the CO had no idea. So its important to take all the photos you sent to USCIS again to the Embassy.
However, we still had to wait for the Sri Lankan police clearance which arrived in app. 5 weeks time. After that it was more nerve wracking when the visa printer did not work and they couldnt print visa. But eventually we did receive the visa!
I was going to give the Embassy 5 stars because they scheduled the interview so quickly and processed everything quickly, but because of the security staff and the problems with visa printer I only give them 3 stars.
Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
