Embassy Review : |
My husband's interview was at 8am. We arrived at the entrance of the embassy at around 7:45am and there was already a long line. But the security personnel take in people based on their interview time so, my husband went right in.
Note: backpacks, bags, etc. Of any kind were not accepted and I waited outside.
After he went in, he waited 30 minutes to be called by the first consular officer. She was Turkish and went through the folder with the paperwork we had gathered.
Then he went on to complete his fingerprint scan and biometrics. Finally a second consular officer who was also Turkish asked him about my birthday, how we met, my father, where we were going to stay in the USA and what we were going to do. All in all he waited almost 2 hours for a 5-minute interview but we were approved!!!

Embassy Review : |
Right before the week our flight was scheduled there was the government shut down. But, luckily for us the shut down was canceled/postponed and everything went back to normal for a while.
We landed at JFK from Istanbul around 12pm in the afternoon and there was nearly no line or waiting for the customs/passport control. We were so shocked and very happy at the sight!
I asked the workers there by the line which side we should go on, since my husband is the RA and I am the US citizen - and the control area usually splits, the worker told us we could go together on the US side. So my husband got checked first, the officer asked for his yellow packet but because the system was now changed to online we didn't have it. Even though the officer didn't know about the new system the others helped him out and once everything on the screen checked out, the officer asked my husband to go to the customs control area to be checked there.
Then the officer checked my passport and everything was okay. As my husband went to the customs area I went to get our baggage. We waited at baggage claim for at least 30 minutes, but it was bad because we waited for our pet dog which we had given to the cargo section. It was bad that they gave her to us after all the baggage was sent in. Once we got her we got our other baggage and went home. When we got home we noticed that one of our baggages had been damaged very bad. But, because of the chaos and our excitement at the airport we hadn't noticed it there, so we couldn't do anything about it now.
All in all, it wasn't a bad experience but not a great one either! There was no one that really helped out with any of the baggage or anything else. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
