Baltimore does not generally approve on the spot. here are some exceptions but this seems to be done the majority of the time. The letter which we were given at the interview told us to please wait at least 120 days and at that point we may make an inquiry through the national customer service center or we may request an infopass appointment. The letter was had the name of the local field office director in Baltimore. At 122 days I called the national customer service center requesting an infopass appointment, was routed to tier 2, and was told its not a thing to request an infopass for case update. I asked for him to please explain to me why the field office director would have letters issued with his name and title on the bottom of the letter if its not a thing? They Tier 2 officer kept on talking in circles and really couldn’t give me an answer. I asked him for the email address for the officer handling my case so I could reach out directly. He said he didn’t have it. I asked for him to call the local Baltimore field office. They said he can’t do it but maybe he supervisor could. So he put me on hold and got his supervisor.
This supervisor told me the same thing. That the prior officer was correct and that infopass appointments are not for case status updates and he couldn’t speak to the letter that I received. He told me I could complain to the ombudsman about the letter. I told him I have no interest in making a complaint as that does not solve my issue at hand. He then advised for me to make an online inquiry. I told him we both know that it’s a waste of time and it wont get anyone moving on the case. He didn’t acknowledge this directly but seemed to agree with me. I asked him to call the local office and the officer handling my case to see what was going on. He said he couldn’t do that. I asked him what else I could do. He advised for me to write a letter to the local field office director that was listed on the case. I basically did a pre writ of mandamus letter. Outlined my concerns and said I was reaching out prior to filing a writ of mandamus and that I wanted the case to be adjudicated as its been over 120 days since the interview. I found the email address for the field office director online and sent it to him via email and also sent signed receipt certified mail delivery via USPS. That letter was received on Monday and on Tuesday morning at 9am I received a notification that the case was updated to “New Card is being producedâ€.
I would suggest to push and push if its been over 120 days.. No reason to keep people waiting this long when other offices approve on the spot.

Fiance arrived on flight from Ukraine - actually went Ukraine to Munich to IAD. She arrived at IAD and I provided her with a US sim card on my last trip there to pop into her phone upon landing so she could call me when she landed. Once she got to immigration she had about an hour wait to get to see an officer. THey asked her my name, verified my street address, asked where we met, my age and when we would get married. Also asked if she was bringing any meat products, vegetables, drugs, alcohol or weapons. THey took her fingerprints, took a picture of her eyes (They have a new system at IAD that they can tell if the person in the passport is the same person standing in front of the officer). He smiled and said good luck and they then took her to another room for processing. She said there were about 70 people in this other room and she called me to say it would probably be another 2 or 3 hours. It turned out to be about 15 minutes, the officer gave her passport back to her and said good luck. All in all she said the process was pretty easy and everyone was very respectful.

Got to USCIS at 810am for our 830am appointment. Went through security and then checked in with the reception area. Sat down and got called back for our appointment at about 9am. Was in the room for about 30 minutes. Very very easy process. She went over the application line by line and asked me (the US citizen the names of her parents) and asked Iryna for my Date of Birth, her date of entry into the US, which airport she arrived in the US and our date of marriage. She asked for additional documents and we provided joint bank statements for both checking and savings, authorized user on credit card, joint car insurance, joint tax return for 2018, life insurance beneficiary , 401K beneficiary, joint health and dental insurance, joint insurance on engagement ring, about 80 photos of us together (of which she only wanted to keep about 15 or so because it would make the file too big). She said we had plenty of other evidence. Said everything looks great and that Baltimore policy does not too approve on the spot and gave us a letter which says to give them 120 days to review everything to make their decision. She advised it shouldn’t take nearly that long as this file seems pretty straightforward and she wished us good luck. All in all a very very easy process. |

Timeline Comments: 2Hi GP1977. I am going through a similar issue as you had with the Baltimore Office after the green card interview. It has been way past the 120 days and I still have received no update. Calling USCIS and submitting service requests has proved a waste of time. Can you give me some more details about the letter you wrote to the field office? What exactly did you write that got them to process the case? Also, you mentioned that you found the email address for the Field Office Director, would you be able to share this?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!
TKDC on 2021-11-09 said: Hi GP1977.We have small Maryland AOS grp on Facebook and few of our members are facing the same issue like your wife. Can you share the sample letter you send and also how to find the field office email address.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
