Event Description

Embassy Review : I found the process reassuringly straightforward and was probably helped by having my fiancée with me on the day.
Our interview was scheduled for 09:10 but, anxious not to be late, we turned up at just after 08:00. Because the Embassy advised not to turn up in excess of 30 minutes before your interview time we thought we would have to wait around, but the woman with a clipboard outside the Embassy kindly allowed us to proceed through security. We were in the large, bright waiting area by around 08:15 and were number three in the queue for Immigrant Visa interviews. After about 30 minutes I was called up to a window where a man asked for my passport, certificates and all of my documents, with the copies, which he took away. He then asked me to pay the processing fee at another window (I had brought the $100 in USD, but they also accept payment in GBP).
I returned to the waiting area for about 30 minutes and was called up again for my interview. I had been expecting a ‘sit down’ interview but it all takes place standing at a bank-like window. I was interviewed by a pleasant young man who asked me firstly to swear that I would answer the questions honestly; I was then asked to confirm my name and some basic details about my fiancée. He looked through our file and asked some further questions about what job I hoped to do, where we would live etc. Straightforward really, not designed to trick. Then he said I was ‘approved’. Fantastic. The official then returned to me the originals of my certificates and documents, and my x-ray. He kept my passport which was returned to me two days later, along with an envelope ‘not to be opened until my arrival in the US’.
I’m not sure how long it took but the whole process was over by just after 10:00.
My advice: it may feel like it takes ages to get the fiancé visa, but once you have received your NO2 things really speed up, so be ready for that.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
