My fiancee (beneficiary) had her interview on a Wednesday morning. When she arrived there were plenty of people ahead of her in line. There was one line at the beginning that included all types of visa applicants, but later on it split into two separate lines for immigrant visas and nonimmigrant. At some point while waiting in the line they checked her Appointment Confirmation page that she printed from USTraveldocs website when she scheduled the interview, and her passport. She was given a paper ticket at this time and then went thought the security checkpoint. Then she proceeded to a different building where she took an elevator to the third floor and presented the ticket to the clerk. They then asked her for her passport and Appointment Confirmation page again, where they scanned the DS-160 barcode. They did not ask her for the DS-160 confirmation page as they only needed the barcode from the appointment confirmation page. They gave her a interview number and she went to the waiting area until she was called to submit the I-134 documents. She provided them my tax return transcripts AND my tax return 1040 form (she had both just in case), my W2s, and pay stubs. They did not take my employment letter or my bank letter. She also submitted her unopened medical exam results. Later on, she was called to the interview window.
The man doing the interview was a middle-aged gentleman who she described as very polite and easy to talk to. He noticed right away my fiancee's excellent English and complimented her on it. He asked her several questions but all of them were exactly the same that we had been practicing before, so she answered easily. The questions were: What is the petitioner's name? Where does he live? What are his parents' names? When did you meet each other? How did you meet? What dates did he come to China? He also asked to see the photos she brought. We had prepared our photos loose in a plastic ziplock bag so it was easy to slide through the window. No fancy binder needed. We included about 10-15 photos. He did not ask to see our chat logs, postcards, or any other evidence besides the photos. It was a little difficult during the interview to hear the man ask the questions, as the speaker he talked through was not very loud and there was a lot of background noise with people chatting in the waiting area behind her. Because of this, she had to ask him to repeat a lot of the questions. However, he did not seem bothered by this and perhaps was used to it. The final question he asked her was if she was a CCP member. After she said no, he congratulated her and said she was approved.
After she left, she realized that they never asked her for her passport photos, which was listed as a requirement on the K1 Visa Instructions page downloaded from USTraveldocs. She is unsure if this will pose a problem later or not. Regardless, we are happy to have received the approval and now we can manage anything that comes our way. We hope this information is helpful for others. Good luck! |

Our AOS interview went smoothly! The only real hard part was waiting for them to call us in. Our appointment time was at 8AM on a Tuesday. We parked at the nearby parking garage (520 N St) since there is only street parking in the area and we didn’t want to deal with finding a spot and worrying about 2-hour parking limits. The garage is one block from the USCIS office.
We arrived around 7:35 and had to go through security. The security guard greeted us and asked for our IDs and what we were there for. After saying we are here for our AOS interview, he wanted to check the AOS letter and had us take off our shoes to go through the metal detector. Once through we took the elevator to the 2nd floor and followed the signs towards room 2-230 (as stated on our AOS letter). There was a line up to the check-in windows and had about 5 people in front of us. We were in the line at about 7:45 and waited a few minutes to get to the window where the nice lady asked for our AOS letter and IDs. She checked us in and gave us our letter back and told us to go to room 2-220 to wait to be called for our interview.
We went to 2-220 and there were about 5 other couples waiting already. We sat down and waiting as we saw all 5 couples get called in. There were even people that showed up after we did that were called in before us, which kind of bothered us a bit but we maintained our composure and waited a total of 50 minutes before a man called our name finally. He brought us over to his office and had us stand and raise our right hands as he swore us in. He asked us for our AOS letter and if we had any documentation with our names and address listed. I basically handed him everything I had about our financial co-mingling (insurance papers, utility bills, beneficiary for retirement accounts/bank accounts, joint tax return, joint credit cards). I did not have my wife (beneficiary) on my bank account as a joint owner because my current bank does not allow non-legal residents to do so, but I explained that to the IO and gave him a paper with that bank policy to prove it. He accepted all the documents and went over them. He then asked us a few standard questions from the AOS application.
His accent was a little heavy, so my wife had a hard time understanding him, but he was patient and did not get annoyed repeating himself a few times. After that he asked for our photos, which I had some loose photos and some that were printed on regular paper. He wanted to keep the paper photos for our file, but he did thumb through our loose photos very carefully. He did not ask us and questions about the photos, but he did ask why her parents did not come to our wedding. We explained that we it was difficult to have them apply and get approved for visitor visas to the U.S. (they are in China, and the process to get Visas is stricter). We mentioned that we instead had a dinner with all her family when I went to there to bring her to the U.S. I was a little worried that this would sound suspicious to him, but he did not seem to change his tone or ask us more pressing questions.
The other questions I remember him asking were pretty basic, like when and how did we meet (online), when did we meet for the first time in-person, do we live in a house or apartment, how many bedrooms, how many bathrooms, how many cars do we drive, what color is the car, do we have any children, and have we been married before. At the end, he asked if there were any other documents we have that we would like to submit. He explained that if we are approved for the Green Card it will arrive in 2 to 3 weeks, and that we will need to apply for ROC 90 days prior to the 2 year GC ends. He did not tell us if we were approved or not, but we could tell he was satisfied with our documents and that he just needed time to do a final check before he can approve us.
All in all, it was easier than I expected but I am glad we did our due diligence and had all the documentation and photos that established our case for our genuine marriage. While writing this review, I checked our case status and it just changed to “New Card is being Producedâ€, so we have indeed been approved!

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
