Comments : We'll be flying into LAX on April 22, 2011 to finalize his paperwork and will update when he receives his green card in the mail.

Also, we had his police certs done before we requested an appt. to file his I-130. We weren't allowed to do the medical until we received packet 3, as the dr. had the documents we needed and wouldn't do the health check until we had the letter stating we were approved to proceed with packet 3.

Event Description

Embassy Review : We were a little confused by the building the consulate is in, but managed to find our way. We also had to have our photos taken on site and theres a great shop for that located over near/around the food section - they even opened early for us to have our\'s taken! Great service getting them done :D

After acquiring them, we headed upstairs for our wait in line (appt. time was 8am), however, the security women in the first staging area called for any US citizens and I stated I was and what I was filing for so they pushed us to the front of the line. We were not only filing my husband\'s I-130 but also our 3 children\'s CRBA and passport applications. We waited only about 2 min. before being escorted up the elevator to the next area where we took a number to wait. There was a bit of a wait, but I think thats because only the booth at the far left was handling our type of filings that day. Service was fast and very friendly - they appreciated our organization - so please be organized and have all your copies and they\'ll treat you very nicely.

After we handled that part, we paid our fee and then finalized the last of it at that station before getting a new ticket for the kids stuff. That took a bit of time with 3 kids paperwork but again, they were very friendly and chatted with us while we took care of the documents. And again, it helped being very organized.

Our overall time in the consulate was probably only an hour or 2 - we had plenty of time left to make it back to the airport for our flight back to home in Queensland. Oh and if you have to stay the night before your interview - we stayed in the Travelodge which is right around the block from it and only cost us 145/room which isn\'t too bad and is only about 2 blocks (walking distance) to the consulate.

When my husband went down to complete his interview portion about 2 mths later he had the same experience as before - very friendly and polite. They looked over his paperwork and had trouble locating one page, but found it in the stack. They only asked him 3 questions for the interview part:
Did he have kids.
Who was ________. (my mother's name)
If he was married.
Thats it and then approved which was freakin' easy compared to some people's experiences. It might have helped that I also included our children's CRBAs and I did have my mom as a co-sponsor for the tax purposes. His total time for his interview (scheduled for 8:30am) was 30 min or so. Very fast and friendly service finalizing his paperwork.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
