My fiance and I stayed at a friends in north London, and left the house around 8:45am. We arrived at Starbucks down the road around 9:30 and had a warm cup of coffee to start the day.  At 9:55, we set off for the Embassy for our 10:30 appointment. There was a huge queue when we got there, that led into 4 other lines. Apparently the lines were for different appointments: 9:30, 10, 10:30 and 11. 11 o'clock was there last appointment slot, and each line went in order. So even people who showed up around 11 for their 9:30 appointment got let in first. It was total BS. If you can't show up on time for your appointment, that's your problem.
Needless to say, we had to wait outside for 2 1/2 hours in the cold rain just to be let in. We were soaking and cold and sick by the time we got in. Once in, we were 1 of 3 immigrant visas waiting (according to the electronic boards). We were called up about 5-10 minutes after being in, and handed in all of our documents. Due to the fact I've been here in the UK with my fiance, I wasn't sponsoring him, although I did fill out an I-134 just in case, but she said she only needed the co-sponsors. They only took the police certificate, birth certificate, I-134, and two employment letters (co-sponsor holds two jobs), plus a copy of each. I went to pay the $100 fee while the woman sorted documents out with my fiance.
We sat back down to wait, so I took the opportunity to use the washroom. While I was in there I heard them call my fiance's name to window 16, so I met him there.
The woman at the window first asked me if I worked, and I said, "I've been living here for the last year, unable to work, but I brought tax returns for the last 3 years showing I normally work." Then suddenly, and a little rudly, she goes, "You can go sit down."  Geeeez.
She asked Karl only a few questions, I believe they were, "How did you meet?" "When did you meet?" "Where are you moving to?" then she said, that everything looked in order and he was approved. Oh, that reminds me, she never really made him repeat an oath, as I thought they would. She read some sort of oath thing, and he just had to raise his hand and say "Yes." We paid the courier fee and got out of there. Passport should be back by the end of the week, and our flights are booked for May 1st
Also, I brought TONS of evidence and documention with the copies, and they never asked for any of it. Bit of a pain, but if I hadn't brought it all, I'm sure they would have asked.  |
