I few in at 2AM the night of the interview. Slept on a bench in the airport for a few hours. (I'm 6 months pregnant I can sleep anywhere) I chose to travel to the consulate on the Bus 474, that everyone has pointed out. I planned to get to the consulate 30 min early, which was a very good thing, because the Bus didn't arrive at the time it was supposed too. I used google maps to track it google maps was telling me that I was going to be 30 min late for my interview!! So! Not a smooth morning.
I made it to the interview on time! But! When they say no back packs in the consulate, they mean it! Even if the documents are all that you have in the consulate. The very kind security guard told me that there is a mall near by with lockers that I could take it too. And that I had about an hour to make it back for the interview. So! there was a whole adventure finding an underground mall in a city that has very very few English signs. My French is not very good at all.
Recieved my check list (was number 16) and had labels put on both mine and my 10 year old sons passport.
Made it back to the consulate by 9:30 (Interview was scheduled for 8:30) and was able to go in through security, and down the stairs to the elevator that only goes to floor 19. I did not have enough time to get my documents together in the order on the list, before I was called to window #1. The lady there was very kind. All they wanted was:
Passports
Birth Certificates
Passport Photos
Evidence of Payment
Fiance's Divorce (I have never been married)
1-134 and Evidence
Fiance's Letter of Intent
And was sent to wait once again. The lady ahead of me was called to her interview and was approved! So that was a bit encouraging.
I was shortly after called to window #8. The interviewer was super nice as everyone has said, she asked me how I met my fiance and how we plan to marry. Our plan is just to marry quickly and quietly and plan a wedding later. Its not fair to family and friends who have to travel internationally, and i would like to be able to plan it with my fiance. I had to swear an oath declaring that everything that had been submitted is complete and true to be best of my knowledge. After a bit more light chit chat she flicked off a couple of switches and said she would be right back and went to talk to someone in the office behind her. When she came back she said that I was approved! Yay! However my son would need to attend the appointment for him to be approved. All that is required is that he stand in front of an immigration officer and I would need to swear an oath on his behalf. However I am 25 weeks pregnant with my fiances child (people ask all the time if its his) and need to get down to the states to start prenatal care with a doctor there. She did say that I could approve another adult to stand and declare the oath on my behalf.
I was given an email address, and a specific Subject line to schedule my sons appearance. We shall see how that goes, its been a week and Ive heard nothing back. |
