Arrived 30 minutes before appointment time. Called in about 20 mins after scheduled appointment time. Guy was really nice. Asked most of the I-485 questions and some about our future plans. Didn't take any prepared documentation or photographs from me and said he already had everything he needed. Said we were approved and should expect my green card in 3 weeks! |

Got there 15 mins before my interview, they were only letting the applicant in so my husband had to wait at a near by coffee shop. Officer was super friendly, put me under oath, passed 6 civics questions, reading and writing test. Asked if I wanted to take the oath, said yes. He did it right in the interview room. He was rushing a little because the certificate office closes at 2pm and my interview started at 1:35pm so we made it with 4 minutes to spare. Went down to the oath ceremony room that they're using as the certificate pick up room now. Had to wait about 30/45 mins to get the certificate. Had a photo in front of the flags and couldn't really believe that it's all over! 10/10 Portland Office is awesome! |

Embassy Review : |
Firstly, parking near the embassy: there is none. Although there is a Waitrose underground car park right next to the embassy, it's only free for 2 hours as long as you're a Waitrose customer. I decided to chance it and parked there. I bought a bottle of water before going to the embassy and then had food in the cafe after so I had two receipts just in case. Advice: I wouldn't risk parking there again, the fine for overstay is £90.
My interview was at 11:30 so I turned up at 11:10 to go through the airport style security. I was the only one in the queue. A lady came outside and took my Embassy appointment letter and passport, disappeared inside. Came back out with a written note on my letter and went through security. I had a bottle of water that I hadn't opened yet and it wasn't an issue.
I absolutely love the new embassy building. Walked inside to another reception area, where I was asked for my DS-160. A bunch of stickers with my queue number were placed on the letter and I was instructed to go up to the 1st floor and seat myself near windows 20/21.
I was waiting for about 10 minutes before I was called to window 21. Lucasz asked me for all my documentation, took my fingerprints and asked me a bunch of questions about who was my petitioner, what visa type and asked for my mobile phone number for the courier I believe.
Sat back down and chatting to a lovely woman also waiting for a K1. She went to the window and was approved in 10 minutes. I was shocked, I was expecting a grilling! But then my number was called. An American lady then asked me to take the oath, held up my right hand and then she took my fingerprints again. (Just in case I'd done a swap for someone else haha) She asked me my name, my fiance's name, where he worked, how we met, what type of place does he live in and what we plan to do for our life together.
I actually financially sponsored myself. I gave in a bank statement and proof of where the money came from. I did not give in an I-134 or tax documents from my fiance. All she said was that my documents were in order and then told me that I was approved and that my visa would be with me within 2 weeks. I stood there in total shock and she laughed. I said thank you so much and skipped outside to call my fiance!
I was in and out within 45 minutes!
Good luck to those reading this with your journey.

Embassy Review : |
I entered the VISITORS line at the airport (NOT ESTA) and retrieved the package to give to the officer. He understood immediately what I was entering on and asked me to tell him what the next steps were for me once I had cleared customs. I told him that I had to marry within 90 days and adjust my status. He said he was happy I had done my research. He took my photograph and only one hand of my fingerprints. He opened the envelope which contains the I-129F documentation and asked if my address was the same. I said no and he updated it from the customs declaration form. He told me that he would file the paperwork and said I was good to go. Total time: 5 minutes.
Also with the customs declaration, I wrote that I was emigrating to the US and put my total value on the items I was bring to $500. No-one said anything and I walked through to get my bags for my next flight to Portland, Oregon. My new home! |

We entered the building about 35 minutes prior to our appointment time to ensure that we got through security and checked in at reception. You wait upstairs until they call your name (not number) and walk through to the offices at the back. We were waiting about 45/60 minutes until we were called. The officer was very nice (I didn't catch his name but he had a slight speech impediment). He asked us our names, for our identification and then took my fingerprints and a photograph. He asked me about 80% of the questions from the I-485 general inadmissibility section. He asked if I had ever had a job, what I was doing in my waiting period and what plans we had for the future. He asked us if we had any pets, any children and any plans for this year. He asked about our living situation so I gave him a letter from our roommate stating our situation. I asked him repeatedly if he needed any other documents, or to look at my originals but he said no, that everything was in order. He didn't even look at our wedding photos.
Although I had prepared a bunch of evidence, it wasn't required. I would still take it all if I had to do it again. Better to be safe than sorry.
He approved us on the spot and told me that I should get my Green Card in 3 weeks. It actually took 7 days. It just felt like a really friendly chat with a person and he was really nice. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
