Event Description

Embassy Review : Beneficiary arrived alone early morning for the scheduled interview along with a complete copy of our I-129f documents and I-134 Affidavit of Support. The CO, looking through our paperwork, asked if we've met only once (we had proof showing that we've met on 6 separate occasions over 3 years in Brazil). My package was incredibly well organized, this leads me to believe that they will not have the time to sift through yours entirely.

The CO asked my fiance what she would like to do in the US for work, if she has ever been to the US before (no), and immediately after that question, he saw that she'd been denied a B-2 tourist visa twice before. The CO asked how many times she was denied and said it was 3; my fiance corrected him by saying she was denied only twice.

The CO asked what company I worked for and what my occupation was.
Side note on this last one: I have a very specific role in the world of IT but it's something that is difficult to explain to your average Joe or someone who doesn't work in the field so I put down my occupation as "Engineer" to keep things simple. Fortunately my fiance was able to reference me as an engineer and used "computers" in the same sentence.

He proceeded to ask her what our plans were for marriage. She gave him a timeframe of 2-3 months after arrival in the US for a court-wedding. Ceremony to come later. He asked if my parents knew her and she told him the truth (no) - that she didn't know them because she's never traveled to the US to meet them before. But she would be living with my mom (because my mom lives with me) and we'd be staying with my dad over holidays (divorced parents).

Shortly after, the CO informed my fiance that her K-1 visa was approved and that she would receive it in the mail within 10 business days. Approved on September 5th, passport with visa received in the mail 8 business days later.

Aside from the interview, itself, I want to point out that I had my fiance fly into Rio the night before because her interview was at 7:30 the following morning. She was pretty content at staying in a dump but for an extra $20 I could put her in a hotel that came with breakfast and things that was 1 to 2 blocks away from the US Consulate, she'd also be able to leave her cellphone and things she didn't need in the hotel room. I booked her stay at the Windsor Asturias Hotel, a 9 minute walk on one main road to the embassy. My fiance passed the hotel that she'd originally asked to stay at and she expressed how glad she was for me forcing her to stay at the Windsor. Here was the cost breakdown to get her to the embassy:
- 1 night at hotel: $64.07
- Bottle of water @ hotel: $2.29
- Round-trip flight cost: $88.64
- Taxi to hotel: $11.15
- Post-approval celebration McFlurry @ McDonald's: $8.91 (not sure if she got anything else because that is an expensive McFlurry)
- Uber to airport: $2.48 (Uber's can't pick up at GIG, only drop off)
--------------------------------
Total trip cost: $177.54 (not including any embassy-related fees or charges)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
