Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 25, 2018
Embassy Review : I had my interview at the London Embassy and I scheduled my interview for Wednesday 25th April 2018, which left 7 clear working days between the interview and the medical, which was scheduled for Friday 13th April 2018, and was the earliest date they had available so I was waiting a whole month between receiving the letter from the embassy and going to medical…

I emailed Knightsbridge on the Monday to check up and see if the medical would arrive in time for the interview, they didn’t get back to me until the next day and said “Your medical will be with the embassy in the next few days” so that was disappointing and I accepted I would most likely be waiting a bit longer for the visa should the interview go well.

The Embassy was extremely easy to get too, and there was some nice seating outside where you can sit down and wait if you’re too early, of course if the weather is not too terrible. I then went round to the South Pavilion Consular Services entrance where a woman checked my appointment letter and passport and I then went through the airport style security like everyone else.

I then walked up to the reception counter and the woman there gave me directions, it’s dead simple and I would be amazed if someone managed to get lost! My number flashed up a few minutes after, and the male CO took my fingerprints and documents which for me were (Passport, birth certificate, police certificate and affidavit) which they request in the appointment letter, he didn’t want to see any of the additional evidence I had brought with me… I was also asked one question, which was how did I meet my fiancé? And then to my surprise he handed me back an envelope from Knightsbridge Doctors, so it looks like it got there in time after all!

After that he told me to sit down and wait for the second American CO to interview me, he said they would be the ones who might want to see any additional evidence. I waited about 15 – 20 minutes and it was interesting listening to other people getting interviewed and giving the CO their life story, before I knew it, my number was called up on the screen.

I went up and was greeted by a very friendly woman CO who asked for my fingerprints and had my file in front of her, she asked a few general questions which were…

Do you have a criminal record in any other country?
Have you always lived in the United Kingdom?
Who is sponsoring you?
How did you meet your fiancé?
Where does your fiancé live?
What are your plans once you move to America?

And then she smiled and said “Congratulations, your visa will be with you in 1 – 2 weeks” and to be fair the way they ask the questions it feels like you are just having a general conversation and was easy stuff. And that was it, all done and now on to the next part of the visajourney.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Los Angeles
Event Description
Entry Date : 2018-05-16
Embassy Review : I entered through LAX with a K1 visa, unlike entering on the ESTA you don't need to get the print-out at the kiosk as they don't have any options for the K1 so you just go straight into the queue to be called up by the CBP officer. Once called up I simply showed him the visa and handed over the sealed packet which he opened and had a quick look over, and said I had 30 days to get married, stamped by passport and marked it with K1 and then I was on my way, and walked straight through customs.

Overall it was very easy but spent over an hour waiting in the immigration queue, on the plus side the people who direct you into the lines were very helpful if you needed any help or had questions.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
