Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 29, 2018
Embassy Review : Arrived at consulate at 6:50 am - appointment was at 8 am

One family was already there from 6:45 am

Stood outside until 7:30 am

By then there were 2 families and around 4 applicants

Officer came outside with the board of items that are not allowed passed security - I had my water bottle and phone that were not allowed

He then asked everyone to line up according to their appointment time with their passport and interview appointment letters in hand

I was 8 am

There were three 7:30am appts and three 8am appts

He only let in as many people that could fit inside at a time, everyone else waited outside - bundle up

Once it was my turn, I handed my passport and letter to the next officer (behind the podium), she asked what time my appointment was for, then handed me a laminated sheet with a number - I was #4 - and told me to:

Go through security
Go downstairs
follow the list on the sheet she gave and keep all necessary documents in order
After that I waited until security called me in - don’t let yourself through the door, wait for them to open it

It's just like airport security except you can keep your shoes on

Then the officer took my water bottle, asked me to shut my phone off - silent/DND does not count - and gave me a ticket to come retrieve my items after - DO NOT LOSE THE TICKET

I then went downstairs sat down

Started to sort through my papers when everyone was called to the elevator

You don’t need to rush, the elevator comes back down - everyone rushed but me

I took the next elevator up and sat down

My suggestion - sort through your papers after you go up the elevator

Less tension lol

Next numbers started to get called up to windows

They only do 3 number at 3 windows at a time

This is part of one of the process, handing the documents for processing

Once my number was called - listen carefully and if you cant understand there is usually a guard nearby to clarify - everyone was REALLY nice

I went up to the window and he asked for the following information:

The laminated sheet

Passport and copy of passport

2 passport pictures

Medical envelope

Returns the cd with x-rays and says to enter USA with it
Original birth certificate

Original marriage certificate

Affidavit of support

I846 papers
My husbands 2017 tax transcripts
My In laws Tax transcripts (joint sponsors)
Police Check

Copy of passport of sponsor

He then confirmed my home address, my number, the address I will be living at in the USA and the number to be reached at in the USA

He then took my fingerprints

And asked me to sit down, reminding me of my number - #4 - and that I will be called again

I sat down and within 20 minutes I was called again to another window that was in a room

I placed my belonging on the chairs, and the lady behind the glass was my interviewer

She returned my birth and marriage certificates to me

She asked me to place my fingers on the scanner and take an oath -basically saying that I am not lying and saying everything truthfully to the best of my knowledge

She asked me basic questions - practice and you'll be okay - make sure you really know your spouse haha

She then started stamping and within 5 min, she gave me a sheet with "Welcome to the United States" and said "so your visa has been approved, here is the welcome to united states sheet and a sheet to track your passport. You should receive it in a couple weeks"

And that’s pretty much it.

I said thank you and peaced out

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
