Embassy Review : |
I had my interview at the Paris embassy at 11.30 on a Wednesday and I got there about 15 minutes earlier. Here is a description of how it went in four steps. All the described interactions were held in English except for the conversation with the nice lady (step 3).
1-Before entering the building the security staff outside asked me to turn off my phone and tell them the time of my appointment. After that they asked to see my passport, the police certificates, and the medical examination. They looked at it briefly and handed it all back to me.
2- The first room I walked into was a security check room, much like those at the airports, but smaller. They looked inside my backpack and scanned it. They kept a few things such as my phone and headphones, a pen, a small notebook, lip balm, gum and some tissues. They only left me with my documents folder, wallet and glasses. Then they gave me a batch with a number to collect it all on my way out.
3-Once inside the embassy, I followed the signs that read “visas†and it was fairly simple to arrive at a line where there were already four people waiting. All of them were there for a k-1 visa too, I guess they scheduled all of us for the same time. There were four or five windows and the line was pretty fast. When my turn arrived I went to window 8 because it was free but I was told that Portuguese citizens had to go to window 11 even if they speak English or French. So I went back to line and waited for window 11 to be free. I was helped by a very friendly lady who spoke Portuguese. She asked me for my passport, asked me to confirm the contact information she had, asked what my job was, asked for the pictures, for the police certificates, for my birth certificate, and finally for the Chronopost envelope. First I wrote my address and then I had to take off the foam that comes inside the envelope in order for it to fit through the little window that was in between us. Then she scanned my fingerprints. Finally, the nice lady kept all of the documents, gave me back a copy of the submission, and kindly asked me to wait until my name was called.
4-After waiting for maybe 10 minutes I heard my name being called and I approached the window I was told. The gentleman there scanned my fingerprints again and I swore to tell the truth. Then he asked me about my relationship, when we had met, and what are our future plans. I answered all of that and he made some more specific questions about us while he typed. When he was done, he told me that my visa had been accepted and I should receive it in about 10 days. It will include an envelope with my name in it which I’m not supposed to open.
Fortunately everything went very smoothly and everybody at the embassy was extremely nice and polite. I hope my experience is useful and good luck with your visas |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
