Embassy Review : |
I was so nervous about this as I am only 21 and have only been with my fiancé for 8 months. He is a US marine.
Everyone was nice and friendly at the embassy.
This nice foreign (maybe Russian) chap took my passport, affidavit of support, birth certificate (and translation as I was born in France) and police certificate and pictures and handed me back a CD of my lungs.
All good.
I then waited 2 hours (tedious) to be called up to the only open booth. There was two gentleman (one was in training) these are the questions asked -
- who is it you're wanting to marry?
- how did you meet?
- what does he do?
- how do you stay in contact?
- you've been to America a lot, have you ever over stayed? (I hadn't, ever)
- why did you apply for a B2 beforehand?
- what specifically does he do as a Marine, his squadron?
- what's your plans when you get there?
- so you said you use.. what.. to stay in contact again?
- when will you get married?
- you're marrying in Georgia, so that's where he's from? (Trick question, he's from Indiana but his dad and step mom live in Georgia)
- what about your medical condition? (Now I think he was joking as I don't have a medical condition..) so I was like?!? What medical condition.. he was likes you know... that broken collar bone you had at 17...
*pause for my awkward (you're so funny, please approve me) laugh.
Both officers said they were both ex military, and asked if I was ready for military spouse life, I showed them his wedding band and some of his patches he sent me and then...
"Ok well neither of us see any problem with anything, so congratulations"
TAAAA DAAAAAA..
I cried.
Happy days.
There were lots of factors I had to worry about and they do try to trip you a little bit... but it's their job and when your legit it's easy. He asked a lot of the questions twice.. but no big deal. Just answer them again. Duh.
Happy days. The billboard said est. time for delivery is 17 days to get my passport back. That's fine. Flight out soon!

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
